Wednesday is my favorite day of the week -- Library Day! The kids mostly tolerate it. Today was a quiet day -- we went to story time at one library, where BikerKid raced in and got her own name tag and was all independent while The Flame and I checked out the caged vermin and the water fountain. Tonight was a bit of a failure. Menu mailer called for a rice casserole, and the rice didn't get cooked; it was all crunchy. I think I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, because this happens a lot when I cook rice things in a casserole. Maybe I should start using cooked rice even if the recipe doesn't call for it. We took a road trip to Portland yesterday for a playgroup. The moms all had kids born near October of 1998, as well as other children (we had 13 kids running around). It was fun -- we decorated cookies, played game cube, and talked and my kids all behaved so I felt good. But our favorite part of the journey was filling up with gas for the trek ( Read more... )

It's the last day before Halloween, so I dragged all the available kids 4 & up off to a corn maze. I picked one at Biringer Farm because it's based on a salmon and we've been into salmon for a while.
