I guess I wasn't that clear. My idea was that Sam does live, but he belongs to the demon to do with what he likes.

oh, that was great! I've seen this hinted at in other places, but I love the way you handled it. Like Mary was in control the whole time, and not just a pawn of the demon's who ends up out of control when it comes for his payment. That was awesome!
