Self-intro with blouse question

Nov 02, 2010 02:46

For starters, I am quite tall (5'10") and western-built, which makes me plus-size in lolita clothes. My waist is plus size in Western clothing, though my hips are not plus-size. But on top I have broad shoulders and a large bust, which makes me often wear an XL in shirts (sometimes L if it runs bigger). So most brand is too small for me. So I kind ( Read more... )

Hi and welcome! You are most welcomed here, of course.

I have a feeling I may know the problem. Although the blouse has shirring in the back which allows extra room, across the front is still sized for a smaller bust.
The way to avoid this with your order from Anna House, is to measure everywhere you can think of and probably add an extra inch across the bust. If, when you get the blouse, it seems a bit too large, a seamstress can add small darts to give it a more fitted shape.
When you measure, measure the arm where the arm hole will be so there is sufficent room there. Too small an arm whole will make if fit tightly as well.
Also, measure the length from shoulder to the waist.
Hope this helps and hope to see you around often!

I'm thinking it might mostly be the arm hole, only slightly the bust, because when I tried mimicking the small armhole on my blouse that does feel right, I got the same feeling of tightness on the blouse. I'm just wondering how I might figure out what might be the best armhole size. Because the other blouse actually has a very loose armhole, even on me, so I can't just copy that measurement. But it definitely was too small to be flush against my body and instead was pulling the fabric outwards, across my chest. I tried to measure half of the armhole seam on the too-small Meta blouse and got 21cm, and half the armhole seam on the blouse that fits (but the sleeves are very loose) and got 29cm, which is quite a difference! I guess now I have to figure out a) how to measure this well, and b) how to phrase this for Anna House so they understand 100% LOL.

I would imagine part of your problem is your height, specifically your torso length, and that is why the blouse fits tightly in the odd place that it does. In addition to your larger bust.

some extra measurements you might want to send Anna House, then, is the base of your neck to your (natural) waist (down your back), and make sure you're measuring around the fullest part of your bust with the bra you want to wear with the blouse.

Good luck! You are lovely, btw! :)

Thank you! Part of me just wishes there was some way I could alter THIS shirt to make it fit.. but I'm not sure if it's possible. I'm very picky about lolita shirts, and this one is just so perfect AND is big enough.. except those darn armholes! T_T
This would be so much easier if I could find someone who took blouse commissions. Everyone on egl does skirt or even dress commissions, but I can never find people willing to do custom blouses. I just don't get it.
Anyway, I'll make sure to keep those measurements in mind when talking to Anna House.

Have you checked etsy.com? There is a custom blouse listing there I'm just waiting to be able to afford. And I found a few others via searching. You might have some luck ( ... )

Aw, thank you. None of it's actually legit lolita, but I thought it looked good anyway. The top is just a regular knit blouse and the skirt is actually a squaredancing skirt I bought at a vintage clothing store, but I love it to death anyway. I do have a few actual loli skirts, but they are 22" long so I can't wear them until I get my 24" long underskirt commissioned.
It seems like I've had almost all my skirts be commissioned so far hahaha.

I have the same problem!! I'm a 5'10" loli, but I have larger measurements than you. Anna House blouses are great, but you can also get custom sized blouses and cutsews from Fan Plus Friend and QutieLand. I actually just ordered a custom sized blouse from QutieLand, so I can let you know if they make it long enough! (They did have me enter a preferred length so we'll see ( ... )

Thanks. Let me know. I actually didn't see anything on Qutieland I liked. Kidsyoyo had a blouse that I liked though, because it's like the one I have now, but not quite as cute! Having broad shoulders, I have to watch out for these kinds of shoulder seams: http://www.qutieland.com/products/big/KYB0010-3.jpg
It might be okay, I'm not sure, but it looks like it might be raised slightly at the shoulder seam. If the shoulder seam doesn't lay perfectly flat on me, it makes my shoulders look very broad and AWFUL. Poofy sleeves that poof very high up are bad too. This sort of thing is the worst: http://cdn3.ioffer.com/img/item/912/336/76/o_6wlx3bq14H8UBvj.jpg
I can do poofy sleeves if the poof starts lower, below where the shoulder is. Otherwise I look manly. >_<

But let me know how your Qutieland blouse comes out!
