Hello, my name is Miranda Williams and I am a PhD student in the Department of Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), USA. I am studying how Lolitas use dress items to construct their identity. Primarily, I am researching what it is like to be a Lolita and how this impacts the everyday ( Read more... )

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm happy to share more about my research! The message that I uploaded to the forum was a general one approved by the institutional review board (IRB), but I can certainly give more details about what I'm looking for, how much knowledge I have, etc ( ... )

I agree that the sample is very, very small, even for qualitative research. Especially as you don't seem to have any other selection criteria than + 18, wearing lolita for at least a year and living in the US. Whilst living in the US and 18+ are criteria that cannot be discussed, wearing lolita is very vague. What do you consider lolita? And how many times should that type of clothing be worn to talk about wearing lolita? (f.e. does dressing up once every 2 months for a meeting means that person wears lolita?)
Not every lolita is part of a group.
I share carmidoll's fear for generalisation.

Also, I will make absolute certain to list the limitations of my research. This includes the points that you all made above: 1) small sample, 2) not all Lolitas are part of a group, etc. I would love to have your feedback throughout this process as I put together a final product. I want to represent the Lolita community the best that I possibly can.

May I suggest you edit your post and add in the the details about your research that you've mentioned here in the comments?

Only this is a global community and I think you need to indicate in your invitation post that this is restricted to US residents and limited to 15 people.
Best of luck with your research :)

Great point! Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you know how to edit? It does not give me the option to edit my above post :/

Yes I do. When you open your post to read/write comments, if you scroll up to the top of the page, just above the thread title at the top of the page there should be the word "Edit" just click that and you'll be in the text editor. It might be a bit small so it is easy to overlook.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you :)

This sounds a lot like what Ramblerori does but on a smaller vaguer scale....

Hello ladies! I wanted to come back and thank the community for helping with my study :) I am in the midst of transcribing all of the data and can't wait to share the final product with you!!!

Another thing I wanted to do was ask if anyone else is interested in interviewing. In addition to presenting at local conferences, I plan to submit an article for publication by the end of the summer. And of course, the more participants I have as part of the study, the better!

If you are interested and can interview this week or next week, please email me at mswilli8@uncg.edu. I'm happy to answer any questions you have and/or share additional details!

Thanks again!!

Miranda :)
