I think this has been discussed several times in the comm before... Might wanna check the tags/use the search function to check it out.
Themed shoots are actually very common (even the brands do them--there are quite a few themed shoots in the Gothic Lolita Bibles, for example). So long as you're following the Lolita "guidelines", most people won't really care (just don't be calling something that isn't Lolita "Lolita"). I'd edge away from calling it "cosplay" Lolita, though, and stick to calling it what it is--a themed Lolita coordinate. There are TONS of people who do themed Lolita coordinates. Enough to where Lolita-Tips on Tumblr has a bunch of sections on "Fandom inspired" coordinates.
That being said, I really like your idea for Snow White. I like how it doesn't fall into the "Disney-esque" interpretation of her--it's something fresh and original... I'd love to see more interpretations of fairytale princesses like that.
Oh... I'm really sorry! I checked the coordinates: questions tags up until the 2009-2010 but nothing came up... so I ended up posting. I'm so sorry orz
And thank you so much for your answer! I'm really relieved lol. I don't like calling it "cosplay lolita" either, and have been calling it themed lolita. I've also bookmarked and followed the blog you linked.
Thanks for the compliments too! <3 you are far too kind!
Yeah... I actually tried a few keywords [costume, cosplay, theme] for the search function after you commented, and absolutely nothing came up :/ shame, I was gonna use some for references too...
I'm a new Lolita, but I think your themed Lolita pictures are wonderful! I like the bright-red glass of wine, your expressions. and the pure black hair with all-white coord. And I appreciate the lack of Disney influence, same as the first commenter.
Thank you so much! <3 I was trying as hard as I can to portray a.... deadpan, creepy kind of snow white instead of the glamorous kind that Disney has, so that means a lot to me :'D
Alright! Thank you so much for your answer. I know it's not based on a particular character, but at the same time I was also afraid I might be looking like one of those maid-lolitas and stuffs *cringes*
You know that brands like Angelic Pretty have a lot of maid-lolita outfits right? one of their recent Milky Planet headbands even has the word maid in it. There's nothing wrong with a maid-themed Lolita. The brands do it, the lolitas do it. These western-born taboos are so silly. :/
I agree with the other commenters. I would consider this a themed lolita photo-shoot rather than cosplay. People have done them before. Here is an example: http://egl.livejournal.com/15116294.html Using handmade items is fine, as long as they are of good quality and follow lolita guidelines.
Why is this even an issue. Why does every thing have to be so taboo and walking on eggshells over a simple fashion trend? Some people wear lolita as their daily clothes (I am one of those people). Some people think of lolita as costumes and wear them as cosplay. This isn't just at cons in the West, plenty of people cosplay as lolita in Japan too, even though it's a more accepted form of street fashion here. It's kind of like school girls. Many schools have uniforms as dress codes but many don't and the girls who go to schools who don't are often jealous of the girls who do have uniforms so they go to bodyline and buy a cosplay uniform and wear it to school every day...should the girls who have real school uniforms be offended? Should the girls who have real uniforms also be offended that plenty of 20-somethings wear cosplay school uniforms on Halloween or other event days? Just because an outfit is regular wear to some people doesn't mean it can't be costume wear to others. Does it really insult anybody

Glad I could help with the link to the blog! Lolita-Tips tends to be pretty good with coord help, too, if you ever get stuck.
