My guess is that they charge 3.2% on top of the 15,000 yen, so you will need to find the X amount that equals 15,000 after taking out 3.2% of it.

So using basic algebra:
X * (100% - 3.2%) = 15,000 --> 15,000/96.8% = X --> X = 15,496

So 496 is the 3.2% fee that they will need to charge in order have 15,000 after taking out the fee. And 496 + 40 = 536 (2 less than what they charged you)

I think that's how it's done lol

I'm not too good with math, but the above commenter's calculation makes no sense to me. We're not trying to find X, we already have all the variables. My calculation also adds up to 520 fees total (3.2% of the 15,000 plus 40 yen) and I'm sure you just want to understand how they're getting the number they are getting rather than truly arguing the 18 yen, but realistically speaking I think that whatever is going on is either a very slight mathematical error on their part or some extra thing they aren't telling you about. Since it's only 18 yen I think it would be worth it to pay it and save yourself the headache of trying to figure it out, IMHO.

Yeah it's 18 yen but I was curious how they calculated everything. Very picky I guess! I think darkmint figured it out?
