Gifting through Paypal now has fees?

Ok, so in my situation it really isn't Lolita related, but I thought that I should give everyone a heads up. I was paying my friend back through Paypal for a sewing machine and I always thought that if I set the amount as Gift, there will be no fees applicable. If you're in the same area there's no fee. Not sure how big of an area they are talking about though.

paypal *are* jerks and they flip flop on their own rules often enough unfortunately. :(

If I recall correctly, if you are sending the gift, you get charged fees. The person receiving the gift, however, does not get charged fees. Regardless of who you are gifting the payment to, you will still be responsible for a fee. If they are charging the receiver, however, then Paypal are breaking their own rules.

I've always been charged fees when I've sent money as a gift...in fact, yesterday I sent my mother's paypal account some money and was surprised because they didn't charge fees, haha.

Well it was just really strange to me because I've sent money to a relative before in Asia, there weren't any fees. My friend sent me money from US and he wasn't charged any fees. But when I sent CAD to my friend in US (my friend wanted to keep it as CAD), I have a fee? It doesn't make any sense!!
