Ok, so in my situation it really isn't Lolita related, but I thought that I should give everyone a heads up. I was paying my friend back through Paypal for a sewing machine and I always thought that if I set the amount as Gift, there will be no fees applicable. However, on my selection screen Paypal insists that I have to pay a fee? Although the ( Read more... )

I think there is only no fee when it comes from the same country the person you're gifting to comes from. Eg, I have both a US and Singapore paypal; if I gift with my Singapore paypal to an account other than a Singapore paypal, I have to pay fees. Same goes for my US paypal.

I might be wrong though, just speculation on my part. ^^;

There is only a fee if its being sent straight from your bank account. If your using your paypal balance theres no fees to pay.

Idk then.. But whenever i send something as a gift it comes up with
you will be charged 0.00 for a paypal balance payment
or your will be charged ''x amount'' for a direct debit/bank transfer payment.

What is the currency you mainly use on your paypal account? If for example you're in the EU (so you mainly use Euros on your paypal) but you pay someone who requests payment in USD, then the fee might be because of the currency converter fees? (Or just because you're transferring money to another country other than your own) I'm not sure but I usually need to pay a small fee too, when paying as gift, when I pay someone in SGD or USD for example. And I have Euros as the main currency on my paypal balance.

Same here. Always had a 40p fee for sending as a gift, and I've been using paypal for years. The only thing I don't get a fee for is transferring money to my bank account. I disagree that they're greedy though. It's a business service and they shouldn't offer it for free.
