List of What Can & Can't be Washed

Jan 31, 2010 15:19

So I decided to try to be helpful by making a master list of what can & can't be washed.

Thank you everyone for your input! I will try & keep this list as up to date as I can through out the year.

Please comment with any prints you've had problems with or ones that you've had machine or hand wash success. I will add them to list.

Not a brand's print, but a lot of stuff uses this pink music note border print fabric. I have a skirt in this print and it came out fine washed on cold and the gentlest setting.

Metamorphose Vintage Cherry (polyester version) can be handwashed, even though this is not recommended because it might ruin the fabric.
Metamorphose Candy Star Rabbit runs in water and/or rain and has to be drycleaned.
BTSSB Marie Antoinette JSK can be handwashed.

All have been handwashed in cold water.

I have vintage cherry JSK in both polyester(offwhite) and cotton(pink). The difference is really obvious in person because the polyester fabric is of an entirely different weave to the cotton one, so it feels and drapes entirely differently.

Photograph wise, there are also some differences in the JSK design. The Polyester version has meta's signature strand of plastic& glass pearls which can be hooked on thread belt loops across the waist, has a tiered ruffle skirt with the bottom ruffle able to be unbottoned. The cotton version comes with a tulle slip and has a plain single skirt portion, and no pearl strands or thread belt loop.

That reminds me - I tried hand-washing the pink vintage cherry cotton JSK too, the print doesn't bleed out but it's obvious that the pink and red generally washes out. I would recommend against washing it beyond spot-cleaning because it would eventually yellow or fade the print.

Okay, I must have the cotton one.
Thanks for the information, mine really need a spot clean in a few places at the moment.
I'll be sure to add all this!

I have baby's music salon, cherry bouquet, starry sky mother goose and grosgrain angel print ( I think that's what its called)

I have washed in woolite and flat dried.

Also something I've tried lately is to spray starch on bows that can't be removed on dresses. After they've been washed they look frumpy. Spray, you arrange the bow the way you'd like, lay flat to dry and voila! you have a perky bow again!

*Shock!*
I applied a bit of water to loosen a stain on my Starry Sky dress and the color instantly bled. I couldn't even apply steam to it. :\
