List of What Can & Can't be Washed

Jan 31, 2010 15:19

So I decided to try to be helpful by making a master list of what can & can't be washed.

Thank you everyone for your input! I will try & keep this list as up to date as I can through out the year.

Please comment with any prints you've had problems with or ones that you've had machine or hand wash success. I will add them to list.

I recall someone having a problem with Baby's old Swan Lake print running (the red colourway I think) and also someone had their Meta Toybox print run.

i've washed ap Wonder Party, Fruits Parlour, radioactive cupcake and florals/plain fabric with no problem. (machine wash cold, 'handwash' setting, dry flat.)

Anyone know if Btssb's snow white print is safe to wash? and the Usakumya?

What I'm wondering about certain prints that can be handwashed is: does the colourway matter? I'm thinking that maybe it's more risky to handwash or machine wash a darker colourway or with a print with dark colours and light colours together compared to a print with all light colours.

From what I've heard some colourways do run more/worst than others.

It definitely does matter. I had the Baby Parfait print OP in pink, and when I handwashed it, the pink of the print ran a little - if looking for it, I could notice it, but from far away or wearing it wasn't so bad since it was just pink on a pink background. But I later bought the white skirt version and the previous owner had spilled some water on it, and the red of the print ran quite badly and stained the white areas pink. To the OP: I have no idea how this print is supposed to be washed, because the drycleaners said it would keep running if they cleaned it as well. Maybe extremely cold water and salt to prevent the ink from running?

Red and black tend to run more, and very dark blue too.
If you want to check weather or not it will run, wet a small spot (that is not too obvious), and then dab a white paper towel on it, see if the color run.
And also always always use cold water. Hot water is a complete no no. Thats how I get by so far anyway~

I have washed meta's candyhouse print (cream colourway) in the washingmachine (30° C) and it came out fine! I also have handwashed (cold) IW Royal Check (dark blue colourway) and had no problems with running/fading.
