NYC Gothic Theme Meet - ALL FULL, AS OF 6/24!

May 14, 2009 23:20

Inspired by the lovely Helsinki post awhile back, I asked around if there would be an interest in a Gothic theme meet and the answer was "yes"!

So don your darkest attire and join the New York City Lolitas for an afternoon spent in the truly gorgeous Cloisters, a medieval art museum with over 5,000 works and constructed from actual ruins brought brick by brick from Europe. We'll finish with an informal photo session in the park outside.

Date and Time

The morning of Saturday, June 27, 2009 we will meet at the Cloisters at 10:45am, as we have a group reservation (for 20 people) at 11:00am for a self-guided visit.

We'll explore the museum and gardens from 11:00am - 1:00pm and then regroup out front for an informal photo session in the area from 1:00pm - 2:00pm.

(For food, the Cloisters has a small but pricey outdoor snack area, and there is the cottage restaurant New Leaf Cafe serving brunch a nearby 10-minute walk south if anyone wants to duck out of the museum early and rejoin us at 1pm.)

After the "official" meet-up ends, if anyone wants to grab lunch in the city and continue on to the Met, your ticket to the Cloisters also gets you free admission to the Met itself during that same day. :)

Theme Attire

Dark, elegant and lovely looks in the Gothic or Kuro Lolita, Aristocrat, Kodona or traditional Goth styles. No Guro or obviously Ero. Brand, off-brand, homemade all welcome, of course. If you're not sure if your outfit will work, please feel free to ask and if you'd like ideas, please see the beautiful Helsinki post that inspired this meet-up!

Price

The Cloisters requires payment for groups, at a rate of $16 for adults and $8 for university and high school students and I will need to pay for us up front when we arrive. Once I've confirmed you, I'll email you the link for PayPal or credit card payment, or my address if you'll be sending a money order within the next few days.

A Note on Punctuality

With meet-ups like this that involve paid tickets, we can't wait around for people who are running late. Please give yourself plenty of time to get ready and double check how you'll be traveling to make sure you'll be on time as the Cloisters is on the northern tip of Manhattan. Thank you!

Sweet-Gothic Disclaimer (prompted by recent Lolita Secret posts, to be read in super-fast announcer voice): The organizer of New York City Gothic Theme Meet-up does not endorse the idea of Gothic Lolita being superior to Sweet Lolita or the notion of theme meet-ups acting as discrimination and frankly finds the whole argument about the two silly. Violators of the "no drama" policy will be forcibly dressed in crushed velvet, Docs and ankh jewelry and made to listen to the organizer ramble on about her teen years.
