I'm with you on your opinion of the progressive glasses. Some people can adjust and others, like me, cannot. I hope you are one that can adjust because it's a pain in the rear end changing glasses all the time.
I'm more appreciative of the progressive lenses today. I tried on my old trifocals last night to play piano and the lines seems so huge and obscuring after not having them in my vision all day like I usually do. I found last night I actually preferred the progressive lenses for the piano. Just need to get used to turning my head more to see things I guess...
It is annoying that I have to point my head at whatever I want to look at
Yes it is. I mean, I've gotten used to them, but I miss being able to look at things sideways. Also, you should be able to get glasses customized to a certain distance, like the piano. When I first got progressives, they gave me "computer glasses" that were adjusted to that distance. Of course after a couple of weeks I was used to the progressives, and never used the computer ones again. They adjusted my sunglasses lenses because I never focus very close - the dashboard is the nearest thing.
After walking in the woods yesterday with the progressive lenses I discovered one thing that I would probably never like, and that was how out of focus things to the side were. In the woods I like to see everything at a glance without having to turn my head to see it. So I ordered a cheaper pair of single focus lenses last night just for woods walking. I am getting used to the progressive lenses for just standard life though so that's good. Hopefully that will do it for buying glasses for now!
Yeah, I think I already am getting used to them (much better) after one day. I tried my old trifocals on with the lines last night and my gosh the lines seemed so awful all of a sudden. Before I barely noticed the lines but now I do.

For the piano I got a pair of OTC glasses that are halfway between my distance and reading prescription level.
