I had to laugh about the coffee shop experience. I am pretty introverted and moved around a lot growing up. I still remember the shock of pleasure that came when I got to know a few neighbours and would see people I recognized on the bus or at the grocery store. I didn’t necessarily know them, let alone be friends; they were simply regulars and it meant I had lived there long enough to recognize them. It made me feel like I belonged.
I've lived near this town for most of my 69 years so I feel like I have previously seen a lot of people. Though I don't know very many because I am an introvert too. I agree, it does give you a nice feeling like you belong when you get a nod of recognition from someone you've seen before.
