There was only one. I didn't try tearing it apart so don't know what was inside. It was hard. I tried to push into it with my fingernail but it barely dented it.
I can't say for absolutely sure but I don't think it was that. I've seen many oak galls before and they are lightweight. This was solid and heavy, like a grape with a very tough and hard skin. Too bad I didn't tear it apart. Then we'd know for sure.
Thanks! One of these days I'm going to start to carry my big camera and hopefully get some REALLY nice photos. The phone camera is a poor match for reality.
