Looks like a great place to hike!

I love my keen sandals(just like yours) but I do end up with odd tan lines.

I love these sandals! It's the only thing I wear once summer gets here. You're right though, one ends up looking like some kind of a spotted beast.

Was the grape-like thing alone, or were there more like it?
So it wasn't "juicy", it was just hard?

I'm curious about it.

There was only one. I didn't try tearing it apart so don't know what was inside. It was hard. I tried to push into it with my fingernail but it barely dented it.

I think I've got it. It's probably an oak apple gall (a fresh one). Wasps make them.
This one has more spots than yours, but they have varied appearances.

I can't say for absolutely sure but I don't think it was that. I've seen many oak galls before and they are lightweight. This was solid and heavy, like a grape with a very tough and hard skin. Too bad I didn't tear it apart. Then we'd know for sure.

Thanks! One of these days I'm going to start to carry my big camera and hopefully get some REALLY nice photos. The phone camera is a poor match for reality.
