Probably the only one here on LJ who would understand this, or to whom it would make much sense is my sister, earthmother45. When I drew this map today it helped me to make the paths that I weed wacked recently even more real. For many years the lower part of the yard was lost to us because of flood erosion and then giving up and just letting everything grow up ( Read more... )

That is so cool. I love maps! I was forever drawing them as a child and a teen. I'd love to map our place, but I haven't a clue as to distances from paths to boundaries etc.

I have an app on my phone called Endomondo that shows a map of wherever you go. After I walked all the trails that I wanted to show I took a screenshot of the Endomondo map. I printed that off and then traced over that to make the colored pencil version of the map. I tried to draw it freehand first but I just couldn't get the proportions very well.

I love maps too!

Ooh, I need to look for that app!

My father was kind of obsessed with maps and I guess it rubbed off. He'd study them closely every time we went somewhere, trying to find a new route that he hadn't used yet. I remember how happy I was when I bought "The Hobbit" and found the hand drawn maps- a whole new world opened up- fantasy realm maps!

I love maps too, and this one is a beauty. I like to make maps also, and when I have to go to some unfamiliar place, I first go to google maps and draw my route on paper. Then I look on street view and draw some of the landmarks to look for when I am on the way. The maps always wind up being much more than a guide for getting from here to there, rather, the map becomes a destination in itself, just like your map is. It's a knockout!

Thanks! I enjoy looking at maps a lot. I prefer maps to written directions. I think I understand you about the map becoming a destination. It's like my mind has constructed a place (with the map) and then I come to it in reality and they mesh. It's very satisfying.
