Nancy and I walked at Oil Creek Park yesterday and while going up to the outhouse I looked down and saw all this movement on the ground. I have never seen a bug like this in my life. Are you sure those were bugs? Were they stuck on the leaf? I mean they don’t appear to be crawling or eating the leaf. It almost reminds me of some kind of dandelion seed pod thingy that just floated by and got stuck on the leaf? But if I were to takes guess it may be some form of wooly aphid or a caterpillar of some form . Very interesting mystery you got there kiddo.

I think you got it - some kind of wooly aphid. They don't have wings. They were just walking around on the leaf - mainly on the edge of the leaf. I have seen bugs like this before that flew - these don't. I thought they were neat how they waved their back ends so much.

Edit! Did a little more research and they are Beech Blight Aphids. Cool.

REally cool aphid. I wouldn't want one in my yard but what a perfect video. Thanks!

I found out they also call them Boogie-Woogie Aphids cause they look like they are dancing. :-)
