I meant to say, too, on the phone that I love the looks of those magnolia petals....on their way out, richly embedded with veins and liver spots. Oldness is oftentimes more appealing to me than new and unblemished. And the smiley face...... Was that Uncle Jack's and Aunt Romaine's house?
I was looking for a magnolia tree on the way to Nancy's house and then was pleased to find that there were 2 in Uncle Jack's old yard.
I should see if I can get some fresh off the tree next time though. They get bruised and marked just from handling them and it would be nicer to start with a blank canvas.
We used to draw on the petals with my grandmothers sewing needles and then leave them be. In a few minutes the design would appear. We thought it was magical like disappearing ink only in reverse. We never pressed them.

A couple of sad days. Indeed a reminder that life is short.
That's cool writing and drawing on magnolia petals! I like the look of your's, each one different.

Will need to try the magnolia experiment again - didn't turn out well... :-) They are just brown and can't see the drawings.

I'm sad your petal art didn't work out. I hope you can get access to some 'virgin' ones soon.
