yesterday and today

Hiking. Two different places. Sunday it was Dave, Rossy, Andy and me going out on the game lands to a hill overlooking Polk. We went out the wide open trail till it came to the woods. From there the trail winds its way through the trees and is harder to find, but all you have to do is stay on the top of the ridge till you get to the end. That's ( Read more... )

For what it's worth, I love reading about your hikes and looking at your photos.

So glad to hear! I get to imagining they must get tiresome to others and I feel apologetic.

Can't speak for others, but I love them.

Snow fleas? I've never heard of snow fleas. It does look like they like blood. Here we have Land Shrimps which just live under pots and are a bit small for the chooks but if they're quick enough they can get them. Our's like damp conditions and are innocuous. If they come inside and dry out, they become red just like cooked shrimps or prawns.

Don't worry if you always post about your trips, your photos are wonderful! I like your first scene. I like all the others, too. Polk looks like a nice place.

About that ostrich tree, is that wood borers causing that? We have a lot of that over here.

That laser machine looks like fun :)

Snow fleas do look similar to your land shrimps, but smaller. Their other name is springtail cause of the way they jump.

I'm glad you like the photos. They help me remember where I've been.

Polk was a good place in some ways, though it will always have problems. It was a home for hundreds of special needs and mentally handicapped people when I worked there. Now many of those people are in group homes in the community which is better really. Polk has people who just can't fit in very well in a place in the community. I enjoyed the residents. Didn't always care for some coworkers (cruel people) and didn't care for some of the policies there that were not for the good of the residents.

Not sure what makes those bulges in some trees. On Sunday the forest we walked through had many of them, but none as big as this one we saw on Monday.

I looked both up and they appear to be in different genuses, so I don't know? Smaller - wow. They must be small!

Ah, the old institutional thing. well, you are a caring person, and I'm sure you helped the residents. I am sad that there were cruel people there. I have a friend who works at a retirement village/home and she said some staff were very good and nice but some were 'old school' was how she put it. Yes, being in residential care would be much better...as long as there is enough staff. Our govt keeps cutting funding for that :(

Thanks. Glad to hear the multitudes of photos are enjoyed.

I had heard of snow fleas but never seen them till a few years ago. Seems they all agree somehow on a few hour time span and tunnel their way up through the snow. I always assumed it would have been on a sunny warm day but Sunday wasn't sunny at all.

Thank you. Very glad you like the photos. They aren't very high quality but I just like to take them! Reminds me of where I've been.

I have seen snow fleas 3 times in my life, all in the last 10 years. I am doing more outdoor things in the winter now though...

I'm glad you like them. They aren't that great of quality. If I could get myself to bring my big girl camera - maybe I would have more pride in them then. But I do love to try and catch a moment or catch what I have seen.

I first saw snow fleas about 10 years ago and now I have seen them 3 times. It's a special day when they come up. Very mysterious how they can all agree on a time to come up together.

I had a good day yesterday (Monday), now today I feel blaa again. Dizzy for some reason, so I went back to bed.
