Wishing the best Happy Birthday to Hazel!

About the ceramic rocks, you don't show them (or is that the little tray of them on the floor???), so I don't know how big or what shapes you are going for, but what about using real rocks from Sugarcreek. You would have a huge selection, and lots of flat ones, too. Adding a real natural element to the mosaic.

I did consider real rocks but I think they would be too porous - plus they wouldn't sit flatly as I would like. Since this will be behind a stove it will need to be easily cleaned.

Here's some photos:

You might be right about the real rocks being too porous. I forgot about it needing to be cleaned and wiped quite a bit. I think you have great shapes for the rocks you have made, but yes, do a different color, more sandy brown looking. It seems you are going to have a lot of green in the mosaic and the lighter brown color would contrast nicely. I can see some of the leaves that might be salvageable where you can see the veins. And YES, the grass looks great!

The leaves that turned out okay were ones that originally were very bad (I used a different glaze that didn't cover well at all) but then I re-fired them with another coat of a different color. Lots of problems and learning experiences. I have been reading this morning and see that some of my problems are caused by using old glaze - it dried out and then I tried to re-hydrate it. But I should have added some gum solution when I did (not use just straight water) - to smooth out the glaze and slow down it's drying time.

Happy birthday, Hazel!

I like seeing your baseent studio. Hmmm...the green light could make seeing colours a bit tricky...but how cool it comes from the trees outside!

I like your grass and rocks and leaves - even if you are not happy with all of them :P

Yeah, too much TV makes me feel dead inside. I feel like my time has been wasted, my emotions wasted, my memories taken up with usless things etc. In fact, one movie a week is plenty for me - and it better be a good one! I like to 'digest' them. I do watch plenty of documentaries, though.

I just noted that it seemed to have an attractive light happening when I first went down so I came back with my camera. Then I noticed in the photo the strange way the green light was up above and regular light below. I do have regular electric light to see with though - otherwise it would be too dark down there - one of the things I don't like much about it.

I am getting more and more away from the TV - I usually only put it on for a short while to keep me company now if I eat a meal alone.

Yeah, when I still had TV I would do that. Now it's just the radio. Much better, especially as I have found a good station :)

Yeah, light would be a problem in the basment. Would a fluro be the best for colour accuracy?
