It's weird, I miss the online friendships I've made here, but just can't seem to figure out if LJ has any place in my life anymore. FB must distract me too much. That and shiny objects

I still come around every now and again to check the storm windows and make sure I have half a tank of gas in the engine, in case of emergency.

LJ was great fun for a long time (and is still fun these days) but, as a social media platform, its ancient history. The design is inelegant and it gets killed on DOS attack (which is what I think is messing with the site today). A redesign to bring it in line with this decade would surely help!

The thing with Facebook is that it is too easy to not do anything. You simply click "like" and that is all you have to do. It's too hard keeping up with the scroll and you miss a lot of what people write. And, really, most of the people on FB don't write anything, they share from other sources. It is actually less social than it is social.

Hmm. I'm going to post that in my journal. It is the truth.

I use facebook mostly for people I know in RL. LJ was my avenue for those in cyberspace. But it does take more effort, and that's obviously not happening for me in some time.

I found I was away from lj a bit myself, but came back when I was feeling like I needed to hear more about what was really going on in people's lives, rather than just the snippets I was getting on facebook. So I'm back again, and making a concerted effort to be posting more :)

I have to agree. It's weird, but some of the updates i get on FB from people I actually know are short and meaningless, yet some of the things I was privy to here were far more personal. I think the anonymity of LJ allows that.

I agree with some of your other LJ buddies--FB is too easy to get lost in; I prefer LJ, but am annoyed by some of the archaic features.

Yep, doing pretty well. I think I've just found other ways to waste time. FB is just different from LJ in that I know most of those people in RL.

I'm now reading my friends list for the first time in MONTHS. I still post every day but people don't comment much anymore.

It's tough to keep up on everything these days! I'm happy if I can get through everything in mail and FB each day. LJ just got dropped along the way. Sigh.
