went out tonight to return/exchange/whatever the cd thing i bought last week... i didnt think they would take it back but my parents assured me that they would, and they were right :) my dad also said that if they wouldnt take it back, that we would just leave it there and walk away. that would've been amusing... i was actually kind of hoping it ( Read more... )

i was gonna post some suggestions, but i see they have beat me to it :)

let me just add Summertime by Janis Joplin. that song gives me the chills.

plus, let me reinforce The Who... Pinball Wizard, My Generation, The Seeker...

check out The Eagles, Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale, Moody Blues Nights in White Satin, and i don't know if this classifies as classic rock, but you should definately look at Mike Oldfield's Tubullar Bells if you don't know it. It's a masterpiece, made in 73, in which he performed over 2000 tape overdubs to record the album.. he plays a myriad of instruments, therefore, the album is in its whole, unique.

anyways, i'm sure these suggestions, along with the ones already made here, will keep you occupied for a while. and you'll be more than educated in classic rock :) hehe

oh i hope this "cd thingy" holds stronger than the other too.. test it out first.. put some book first or something...

These guys are lame. They're only listing the same 10-15 bands everyone lists. Try these:

Electric Light Orchestra - Listen to everything you can get your hands on.

T. Rex - Try "Get it On" and the rest of Electric Warrior first, and then maybe you'll be hooked.

The person who talked about "Tubular Bells" is right on. There are some kickass electric bits at the end of it.

Brian Eno - ANYTHING. Experimental musician who was a huge influence on music the way it is today. The first to really experiment with volume change in his music.

Some other stuff when I'm not busy rushing around like an asshole.

Lame?! The best, most influencial bands of all time are hardly lame. They are good bands with which to begin your search and self-teaching/exposure to "classic rock". This is obvious, but I have to flip out because I'm strange that way. (no offense ( ... )

*applause*

well i can cross the last 10 or so off that last list.. i've got the classical stuff covered for the most part ;) and i keep getting bigger and bigger lists of supposedly good music to check out... always fun. i've DLed so much stuff since last night.. now i just have to listen to it all :D

anyways so thanks for all the suggestions, and don't worry about Chas saying you(or whoever else)'re lame :P

hello, whoever you are... thanks for the suggestion. i do very much like Tal Bachman and i've been told various times to check out B.T.O. so this is all the more reason to do so... :)

p.s. - oh yeah, and at the risk of sounding stupid, i just thought i'd amend that with saying that yes, i do know that Tal isn't the one in B.T.O., that it was his dad. hehe
