Exactly! Dean's (or just the writer's) words don't live in a vacuum. Those words carry a weight no matter HOW you mean them, and you can't escape that.
I think Dean is somewhat sexist, but I don't think he's a misogynist; I don't think he is consciously aware of the actual deep meaning of what he is saying.
My brother and Dean use the same language, but Dean uses it about people who are trying to kill him (because he understands that it's really, really BAD, even though I doubt he knows why) whereas my brother uses it about girls he picks up in bars.
I think Dean is somewhat sexist because it's clear he thinks there are some things young, pretty women shouldn't want to do (example: the way he treats Jo--that exposes a whole lot of things going on in his subconscious that I'd say he should maybe examine, IF I didn't think he was short on time and needed to use the time that he has to save his butt instead). But I don't think he is at all misogynist because I reserve that word for someone whose behaviour shows in word and deed that he really, truly distrusts and hates women. Like my brother, who really doesn't even like me, even though he loves me because I'm his sister and he has

I want to thank you for writing this out, as crazily as this wank and fandom has gone about this whole thing.
Although I'm quite on the fence myself about this, I think it's safe to say that season three wasn't really written well in general. Whether or not they had wanted to write Dean's dialogue in that manner to make a point to his character, the entire season felt off in regards to everything that was happening. It could've been the affect of the writer's strike, I don't know. But the writing wasn't how it was in the past, and it certainly doesn't excuse the extensiveness to Dean's language towards women. If they had to have him use those words they should've given him a reason, and while we can fanwank as to why based on context they never gave one and it's kind of pointless to do so when he never did it before this season.
But misogyny is misogyny, even if it is based on realism and what an actual guy would say, and I don't quite get the argument that I'm supposed to accept this because it's based on real life.I don't think
