I just realized I never posted this here, which is just absurd because you are the people that will have the most fun with this. It's not my theory, btw. This is all courtesy of Beelzebub's amazing, innocent brain. After watching HP:DH1 in anticipation of DH2's release, we were talking about why Umbridge was so mean and evil and I said, "Honey, ( Read more... )

But didn't she set the Dementors on Harry?

Not that it isn't a cool theory. It's actually kind of fun.

Wow I'd never thought of that but it's really interesting to think about. I wonder if JKR knows the answer or if she ever thought about it either.

Well, it can't have been that day because Kreacher stole the locket back and had it for some time. And I was under the impression that Mundungus only started stealing from Grimmauld Place after Sirius died, though I could be wrong about that part. But nice theory!

Wow, that's a new one for me! My only issue with it is you would think, had she been wearing it constantly, that Harry would have noted it in OotP.

Are we talking about the same Harry Potter? ;D Because, yeah, I think it's possible he might not have noticed it.

Harry's pretty typically clueless about that sort of thing, but Jo isn't. If the locket thing were Jo's intention, I can't help but think she would have had someone remark on it, even as a blink-and-you-miss-it little tidbit.

Ah, well, I certainly don't believe it was JKR's intention to ever redeem her. But I think it's possible folks who like to explore such things in fan fiction could find this an exiting and unique idea. I'm really fascinated by the idea that the real Umbridge may have actually been more like Quirrell until her real personality was overshadowed and her weaknesses exploited by Voldemort.
