I guess I'm not done being sick. I just woke up from a 6-hour nap, and I still feel crappy. Better than this morning, sure, but crappy

Exactly. Unless you counted the kid who looked like he was just starting 9th grade, not a single person in that entire class was LESS than ten years out of high school. Telling us to just "think back a decade or more to that math which you haven't used since" was one of his many poor analogies/techniques.
Oh well, at least I figured it out in time to get my mom SOME of her money back.
Having something be designed to make it easy for the creator to manipulate things is important in just about anything. Some programming languages are better at allowing the programmer to express the intent concisely than others. (I could rant about this at length, but doing so probably wouldn't be useful in this context.) If you do a bit of websurfing about the Korg Wavestation, you will learn that in the last version of the synthesizer they produced, they shrunk the LCD, making the instrument harder to work with if you care about creating your own patches.
It's not obvious to me why 3D graphics should require an understanding of trig, so it's possible that Maya just sucks. (The sum of my knowelge about Maya is ``it's this program that eetmewithtoast talks about on occasion, so I don't really know

This teacher's teaching style was definitely not the best for me. He spent half the last class talking about some concept having to do with "nodes" while I zoned out and stared at the screensaver. If I'm in a history/philosophy/feminist theory lecture, I expect to just be talked to. If I'm at a software class, I expect to be shown the program most of the time, NOT just talked to.
I completely agree, sticking it out would have just made it harder for me to think about Maya- or any 3D program- without having a sour taste in my throat.
