That's nice, that you were able to find a religion that fits you just by serendipity. It actually makes me feel better about raising Bear with little or no religion -- I want her to feel comfortable choosing one for herself (as long as she doesn't choose a crazy one).
Well really, we were raised with very little religion. I just learned that the Friday Group was headed by an Atheist Jew who was adamant that there be no mention of God in the service. But I'm glad we learned some folk songs and dances, and a little bit of Jewish history.
Kids are very unlikely to choose a religion that's in direct conflict with the ethical set their parents have: if they do, it's usually a brief rebellious phase and can be ignored. So, whatever Bear chooses (if any), I'd say it's highly unlikely to be centered around intolerance.
dear Panache -- I am thrilled by your very articulate presentation of just who you are and how you deal with your somewhat complex world.
My life, while marginally closeted and containing other stuff that's hard to communicate, is both less demanding and something of a cop-out in comparison.
Which is why I'm so impressed with your effective dealing with your life as it truly is. Not least the overkill potential (as you said, making yourself "obnoxious" with TMI; also keeping your ego out of the process).
I hope other friends will ring in with their thoughts; this could turn into a darned good example if enough folks contribute.
Heh, you're still calling me by my middle name. Kikea is my first name, though some folks call me PK. I guess I stuck Panache up in the guts of my journal somewhere, fucked if I know where!
I doubt my ego is completely suppressed, but I'm very aware that everyone lives their life with a certain perspective, and may have a great deal of trouble dealing with some of my deviancies that fall outside that perspective. I guess it comes back to the usual: I get very angry at proselytizers, whether they're gay-hating Christians or Gun Nuts or Vegans or even my fellow Bisexuals/Pagans/Kinksters/Feminists/etc. bell hooks is one of my role models- instead of screaming feminism at angry listeners, she sits quietly and educates the curious. I think it's a much more effective outreach philosophy.
Sorry about "Panache" -- it's on your profile (User Info), but I should've recalled Kikea. Anyhow, it's fun to be back in touch -- though I'll be traveling in Mexico from the 15th until the second week of December. Not sure how the new smartphone will be in connecting from there.

Where did your Episcopalianness come from?
In thinking of yourself as genderless, do the female features of your body irritate you?
