I think Puck would be a very good TG/Drag Queen role
Yes, it's definitely a vaguely gendered role. I'm planning on cross-casting the King and Queen of the fairies in my production. Have a bitchin' Drag Queen as Titania and a cool-as-a-cucumber Drag King as Oberon.
Those parts are often played by the same actors who play King Theseus and the Amazon Queen in the opening and closing scenes. I think I might really fuck with the audience and let one actor play the Amazon Queen and Oberon and one play Theseus and Titania.
Yeah, mine'll probably end up with some bi/poly suggestiveness, but my main focus is the fairies. Making them into a combination of insects and street rats, eager beings who surge around the other characters, dancing and frolicking. And playing on the audience's expectations: the Athenian scenes will look like most Dream productions: staid and columned, looking exactly how we picture Ancient Greece. And then when they enter the forest, the cast will suddenly be in a wild urban jungle playland, like something

(OK, they don't always end in orgies or spin-the-bottle games, but they still produce interesting photographs. I hafta get old shots up on my site.)
