On Sunday, Erik and I walked 14 kilometres from Oud Ootmaarsum in the Netherlands, through Vasse and Mander, across the German border, through Getelo and into Uelsen. Towards the end I was reasonably tired and had a huge load of endorphins so I started laughing goofily at not much at all. The Netherlands has the BEST place names I've ever heard. Oud Ootmaarsum?!?

Hahhahahah, oh, the South. There are no other states that end in -as, but we do have quite a bit of that stuff in California, too, ya know. Y'all are welcome to come visit anytime now, ya hear?

Oh yes! As long as you promise to teach me how to pronounce some of your awesome place names. ;)

You should know, though, that I don't live in the part of California famous for shopping...

Pronunciation of Dutch names is pretty easy once you know a few of the trickier vowel combos :) Oud Ootmaarsem is pronounced like "ow-d" then "oh-maar-sem". Pretty simple, really.

So - which part of California IS famous for shopping, which bit are you in and how far is the shopping away?

Eheeheehee, it's even better than I thought!

I would say the Los Angeles part of California is the most famous for the shopping (Rodeo Drive and all that), and I'm about eight hours from there. I guess San Francisco is probably somewhat shopping-famous, though, and I'm only an hour from there! (I live just north of the middle bit, where the bay is.)
