I just received our mutual Christmas present from Jimmy's stepmom and dad, which is really mostly for me. I knew that it was coming, I knew that I was not supposed to wait for Christmas but to open it as soon as it got here, and I even knew roughly what it was going to be: cooking stuff. I can totally relate to this. Dono got me a KitchenAid for christmas last year, and I didn't stop bouncing with joy until around easter.

I had a cheap hand mixer, but I burned it out making Jimmy disgusting birthday cupcakes last year, and have subsequently returned to mixing things the old-fashioned way. I know that I will be equally as spastic when I finally get a real, solid stand mixer. *drool*

The Williams-Sonoma Food Made Fast series. I have one book in the series, and it's great. The books are divided into sections like "30 minutes total prep/cooking time" and "15 minutes active cooking time," plus a section for recipes for things like sauces or chicken that can be used for two or three different meals.

Fuck that. I LOVE useful gifts. Frippery, I can (and occasionally will) buy myself, and then it's exactly what I want; but if I want something practical out of reach, Dave is excellent at making sure I get exactly what I've been thinking about.
