In other news: My GOD, why didn't I look at this before? (Probably because I'm a dork and never think to check Craigslist for anything). I might stop eating altogether if it would be possible to get someone in here every other week.

I've used Merry Maids before, just because they're bonded/licensed/insured, etc. and you don't have to wonder. But they are stupid-expensive compared to what's out there.

If you hire someone you locate yourself, it's probably less expensive than most people think. You could probably have a maid every other week for, say, $100/mo.

No need to justify - if you can afford it and it would make you happy, how is it any different from buying a new shirt, getting your nails done, or going to a movie?

That's a key difference between San Francisco and the rest of the world. Craigslist is so ubiquitous here that no one even mentions it. You say, "i posted an ad," or, "i found a job/roommate/couch/whatever," and people just assume. It's like saying, "i looked it up... on Google". Uh yeah, we know.
