My father and I had a really interesting discussion about religion and ideology today. I love how my dad respects my beliefs and opinions, and encourages me to think for myself. He's a staunch conservative republician and my point of view is about as far as one can get from that, but we do find some common ground and I like hearing my dad's ( Read more... )

I enjoy walking too. If I move to Boston or Chicago I think I may even get rid of my car to cut down on cost. I'll be in grad school anyway, with no time for a job, so I really won't need a car, I don't think.

I think it's great that you can talk to your Dad and that he encourages you to think for yourself. I wish my parents were like that. My Dad doesn't really ever talk about anything that deep or important (I love him, but he's a pretty simple guy), and my Mom is convinced I am going to burn in hell unless I find Jesus and change my ways. So there's really no talking to her. I seek those conversations out elsewhere though, not necessarily with my peers (Well, them too) but with other mentors that I respect-- My former boss, a couple of old professors, people like that. I think it's healthy to have conversations that allow people to share their perspectives and hear the ideas of others. If I didn't do it, I'd probably burst like a balloon.
