Everyone who knew Conan knew him well enough to know he had a horrible habit of running off without saying anything. And usually he ran off into danger especially if Ran was involved

Hanyuu had world hopped on her own to get to where Ran was. Why did she do this? It was because she was worried not only about Conan, but about Ran as well. But on the minus side, nobody could see her. But she was sure that people would be able to hear her if she spoke. But for now, she just kept quiet. She then floated over to the Teitan High School. Ran was right, this city was really huge. Bigger than Hinamizawa, at least. "Ran-chan," Oyashiro spoke softly into Ran's ear, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry."Ran heard this before Conan entered the library and her eyes grew wide, just like a demon's. "STAY AWAY FROM ME!" She yelled, but was told to hush by the librarian. She was slightly shivering now, but she couldn't show that to anyone. It had to stay locked inside her heart

Conan took several deep breaths, wincing at Ran tone.
"R-Ran-neechan..." He tried, not sure he'd heard the other voice. He was shaking, he wasn't sure what to do and now here he stood feet away from the girl he loved and and couldn't tell her the truth. He wanted too.
He swallowed down the guilt, just holding the door open.
"R-Ran-neechan... everyone's worried." He tried. "Please.. try to calm down."
Her eyes returned to the form of a demon’s, as she walked outside the library to say in a tone that was not her own, but of someone else’s, of one that was cursed, she gave him a short lecture. “Heh. You think that I care about that ‘everyone? After all, you were the one who killed him! What are you hiding?! You’re hiding something from me, aren’t you? Because I can hear it. Hear the voice. The voice of the shinigami!”
Hanyuu would’ve cried, but she had to keep strong. Ran could’ve tried to choke Conan throat for all she knew, but she wouldn’t let it. Just like a curse, a chant that could never be stopped, Oyashiro kept on apologizing. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
Ran’s arms waved to the right in madness, she was no longer herself. “SEE?! Can’t you hear the cries of the dead!? Apologizing to me, Conan-kun! Because of all your sins

Conan stared at her, looking at her face as it was hurting so bad. He wanted to tell her, he had to tell her.. maybe it'd all go away. But Hattori was right, it could turn out worse if he did tell her the truth.
"I didn't-I... He fell, Ran-neechan... it wasn't anyone's fault." He took another deep breath, he'd never been so scared in all his life. Not even when Gin almost found him in that locker.
