Everyone who knew Conan knew him well enough to know he had a horrible habit of running off without saying anything. And usually he ran off into danger especially if Ran was involved ( Read more... )

Her eyes returned to the form of a demon’s, as she walked outside the library to say in a tone that was not her own, but of someone else’s, of one that was cursed, she gave him a short lecture. “Heh. You think that I care about that ‘everyone? After all, you were the one who killed him! What are you hiding?! You’re hiding something from me, aren’t you? Because I can hear it. Hear the voice. The voice of the shinigami!”

Hanyuu would’ve cried, but she had to keep strong. Ran could’ve tried to choke Conan throat for all she knew, but she wouldn’t let it. Just like a curse, a chant that could never be stopped, Oyashiro kept on apologizing. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”

Ran’s arms waved to the right in madness, she was no longer herself. “SEE?! Can’t you hear the cries of the dead!? Apologizing to me, Conan-kun! Because of all your sins!”

“No-“ Hanyuu wanted to say, to stop her, but she was powerless. This little god couldn’t do anything. “It isn’t like that!” Oyashiro cried, now on her knees.

Ran then bent down to Conan’s height and put her hand around the boy’s chin. “Well? What are you going to tell me? Are you still going to hide things from me?”

Conan stared at her, looking at her face as it was hurting so bad. He wanted to tell her, he had to tell her.. maybe it'd all go away. But Hattori was right, it could turn out worse if he did tell her the truth.

"I didn't-I... He fell, Ran-neechan... it wasn't anyone's fault." He took another deep breath, he'd never been so scared in all his life. Not even when Gin almost found him in that locker.

All Hanyuu could do was watch, and see all the pain that she had caused to the two. She shouldn’t have done this. She should’ve not sent Ran to Hinamizawa. Hanyuu knew the risks. Ran didn’t know anything. All she knew now was hatred and the fact that everyone she knew was betraying her. Even the little boy, Conan.

Ran looked away, unimpressed. “Where’s the proof, Conan-kun? Where is it!?” Ran then grabbed the shrunken detective by the collar, ready to choke him. Hanyuu was now angry, because Ran might kill the innocent. But were they really innocent?

Hanyuu’s powers were slightly dwindling, and she was becoming slightly visible. “You-“ Ran said in a voice that was almost normal, pointing her finger at Hanyuu. Hanyuu looked down at herself, noticing that she wasn’t invisible. At least, not entirely. It was this world that was doing this!

But then, Hanyuu was able to concentrate her powers to make herself ‘holy’ again. She just hoped that Conan didn’t see her.

“It’s the shinigami! He’s here!” Ran laughed evilly, a wide smirk on her face. “He’s here to kill you now, boy!”

"Keibu-san has it!" Conan got out, trying not to react too much to Ran grabbing his collar, though he did bring his hands up to grab her wrist gently.

"N-neechan! Please! Shinigami don't exist!" She wouldn't kill him, she couldn't. Shinichi glanced at his left wrist where he wore his watch. He had one way out of this, if it turned bad.

Hanyuu had only one choice, but would she be able to do it? She had to allow it, to make her powers dwindle enough to stay visible, but to have enough power to stop Ran from killing the boy. However, it wasn’t that time yet. Or was it? Stomping her feet at the last sentence that Ran said, she complained, “That’s wrong! I don’t kill anyone! I don’t!”

This place wasn’t Hinamizawa, and if anyone died, she wouldn’t be able to revive anyone with her powers. Ran was going to kill him. She was. You could see it in her eyes. The hatred, more bloodlust than any normal human. If only there was a cure for the Hinamizawa Syndrome.

Ran laughed even more. “Liar!” She used her right hand to push Conan aside, harshly. In the way she did it, it was probably some punishment for the boy. Especially because he was in that form. The form of a child. Taking out her knife, she began to lick it. “I suppose since you won’t tell me the truth, I guess I have no choice~” She was ready to kill anyone in her way.

Hanyuu realized the scenario. It was just like that one time, with Rika and Shion. When they fought it out to the death. It was exactly the same! The reasons were similar as well. They had both lost someone they loved. But it was different as well. Someone was definitely lying.

But who was telling the truth?

The protector god of Hinamizawa had to find out. If Conan was wearing the same exact mask as Rika, then she would understand what was going on. And she could possibly help. If only she weren’t a powerless god…

"N-no Ran! Please!" He tried, getting back on his feet as she had knocked him over.

"I'm not lying! Please listen to me!" He felt his eyes stinging and looked at his watch again.

You can do it Kudo, it won't even hurt her... you don't have a choice He grit his teeth and stared at the girl, taking deep breaths. He wasn't going to use it. He had to get through to her. He HAD to.

“See~?” Ran chuckled evilly, not even caring about the fact that it was a little boy she was talking to. “You called me Ran. No neechan. Again, you’re lying to me!” Her arms were now folded. She was about to punch Conan, but then her arm stopped in midair. She was struggling in order to punch him.

He must die! He’s a liar, just like the rest of them! That boy must’ve sided with the enemy from the beginning, Ran thought with a huge smirk in her face. However, her arm wanted to move, but it didn’t. It was as if a mystical force was stopping her from harming Shinichi.

However, Ran didn’t know it was Kudo Shinichi in the body of a child. And nor had Ran returned to normal, or part of her conscience had returned back to him. “Don’t hurt him! Don’t hurt him! Hauuuuuuu~” Hanyuu cried, her arm wrapped around Ran’s right arm, the one that was going to injure Conan. Ran would’ve used her legs, but the little god was stepping on them in order to prevent the karate champion from moving.

“Why are you doing this!?” Ran yelled at the air, but Hanyuu knew that Ran had heard her. “The boy has committed a serious crime, and he must die!”

Hanyuu sobbed, slightly. “No! You can’t, he hasn’t-”

“Liar! You’re just like the others. Why can’t I kill him?! Why aren’t you letting me, Shinigami-sama!”

"I just-Please!" he pleaded desperately. "I haven't lied!" He tried to get her to let go. Just shoot her! It won't hurt her, Kudo! Now He glanced at his watch again, biting his lip.

"Ran-neechan, please calm down. He wouldn't want this, you know he wouldn't want this!"

“I’ll help you, you have to let me help you!” Hanyuu replied with tears in her eyes. She had to do something, anything. To help the both of them. She could see how scared the little boy was. It was all her fault.

I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.

The words repeated like a curse. But she had to be brave. Even though it was true that it was all her fault, it wasn’t true that she couldn’t fix it. If she was able to get Ran back to her world, she might be able-

“But he isn’t here now, is he~?” Ran replied with a smirk upon her face. She was able to push Hanyuu aside, making her fall onto the floor. “I suppose I shouldn’t cut you up first.”

“No!” Hanyuu screamed, and she was angry enough for the wind to cause a slight storm. However, the little god wasn’t powerful at all. She hardly had any powers in this world, much less in her own. Even though she knew that it might’ve done nothing, Hanyuu walked up to Ran. “I have to do this, nano desu~”

Oyashiro then raised her hand and slapped Ran in the face.

"But-!" He was cut off when Ran was seemingly slapped. "O-oi!" He got out, despite his obvious fear of the girl, he still loved her more then anything else in this world.

"Daijobu, Ran-neechan?" He moved a little nearer to inspect her face.

Again, if things got out of hand he had a way out of it.

Ran kept on laughing. As if that slap meant absolutely nothing to her. “Hah! You still care, boy?” The knife was still in the teenage karate champion’s hand. Hanyuu slapped herself in the face now, because she had forgotten to take the knife away from Ran. How stupid could she be?! Hanyuu, after all was a god! Maybe not a good one, but one, nonetheless.

“Let -” Hanyuu struggled, floating and trying to let Ran’s grip of the knife loosen, to go away. “Let go!” Then the knife flew out of Ran’s hand, falling onto the street, where the cars could crush on it. “No!” Ran screamed, her mind in terrible pain. “You did it now!”

Ran was going to get the knife, but Hanyuu wouldn’t let her. Even though the karate champion was fast, Hanyuu was faster. She grabbed the knife, but to the eyes of normal people, it was now floating in midair. “Give it back! I need to use it, to kill the boy!”

“No! I won’t let you! I won’t!” Hanyuu yelled back. “If you really want to die, then do it!”

Ran looked down, and then her demon eyes disappeared for a moment as she sighed and shrugged her shoulders. She then looked at Conan innocently and smiled, just like normal Ran would. “Neh, Conan-kun, would you like to play a game~?”

Hanyuu widened her eyes. What was Ran thinking?

Ran... He watched her closely. Was she back to normal?

"N-no.." He got out, really not in the mood for games. "Please, let's go home." He pulled on her hand.

Ran’s demonic eyes returned as she stared Conan down evilly. Hanyuu knew it! This happened before, too. And she knew exactly what game Ran was probably thinking. “You sure you don’t want to play~ Of course, I’ll give you a head start. And if you lose, there will be a penalty game! Yes, a penalty game!” The teenager laughed mischievously. Why did it have to even go down this road?

“Hauauauau~” Hanyuu cried. Even now she couldn’t do anything but mainly watch. And yet, Oyashiro was now carrying the knife. She noticed people were staring at it, now.

Shinichi realized he was going to have to play this game. He looked behind him briefly. This game wasn't 'play in traffic' was it?

He shivered slightly and turned back to the girl of his dreams.

"..Well.. What kind of game?" He asked, voice smaller then he would have liked.

“You should know this game, Conan-kun. How fast are you at running?” Ran asked, almost bending down to him, but deciding not to. “We’re going to play tag~ And you want to guess who’s it?” She paused for a moment, waiting for it all to sink in. And then her voice went deep. “Here’s the rules. You have to stay in the Beika District. And once I tag you, will you accept your penalty game~? And I’ll give you a five minute head start.”

Just as Ran was about to turn around as if playing ‘hide and seek’, she looked back at Conan saying, with a chuckle, “If I tag you, I win. If you can elude me for two days,” A quick innocent smile, “you win.” Then she went back to ‘oni’ mode. “Understand?”

Conan wanted to ask what happened when he won but didn't, and wait a minute two days? He'd be considered legally drunk after twenty one hours of no sleep.

Damn. He checked his watch and took a few steps back. No way was he going to leave Ran on her own.

But he had to act like he had, or else she'd find him. He took several steps away from her started off down the sidewalk.
