Happy new year, if it's yours!

I finally got around to writing things, so as requested, Yuugi the Jedi and Atem the Sith, the Destiny Trio meet the Doctor and something that got way bigger than expected: Yen Sid Not Approving of Riku and also how Riku acquired his KH2 outfit.

Promise Fallen Through )

I will comment more thoroughly later, but, squee!

This is basically exactly how I imagined Yen Sid reacting to Riku - and aww, even the fairies are sighing over his massive prettiness.

And Mickey is awesome and quietly determined and Yen Sid is being all snarky and assholish everywhere and Riku's just like, "...I'M TRYING wait what did I just do."

Squeeeeee

Oh good, you like it. I thought you might. XD

Yen Sid is Very Aggravated by Riku! Get off of his lawn out of his Tower, young hooligan! The fairies, by contrast, are sweet old ladies. Of course they think he's pretty. Pretty and horribly broken.

Mickey adores his not!kidlet and he belieeeeeeeeeeeves in him forever! Yen Sid is a grumpy old man who is very annoyed by the fact that Riku would have made a perfectly adequate keybearer except he did it wrong and he keeps doing it wrong and also argh forever. Riku, by contrast, would just like to learn how to heal himself and uh he didn't actually mean to break that. Is it good that it broke?

Aaaaah, I love this. I mean, not just the thought put into analyzing Riku and his powers, but also doing so from Yen Sid's perspective. So very much love, especially since I adore anything to do with the trio and playing with their respective abilities. I also squee'd a bit reading the bit about Keybearers and languages. That's always been a bit of headcanon for me too, that they can speak/read any language without thought.

Also, haha, Riku picking flowers for Nami ;///; So cute and bittersweet. Now I want to see Riku's thoughts on Nami returning to Kairi.

Gosh, now that I got a PS3, I'm going to have to replay all my KH games. I still haven't finished Days either sobsob But I prefer the trio to the Organization anyway.

Gosh, Dia-sama, how do you always manage to rekindle my muses?

Writing Yen Sid's perspective is fun! You fill it with crankiness and grump. And I tried to take into account the evolution of his powers that we see in KH1, CoM, Days, and KH2--boy had to be picking up those shields and GIANT GLOWING SWORDS somehow. And of course keybearers can speak all languages. You can see the writing on the banners in Olympus Coliseum, and that ain't Roman lettering.

Namine is a girl! She must like flowers! ...right? That's right, isn't it? His thoughts are somewhat soft and squishy and confused. Did you ever read this? Because that pretty much covers it.

Replaying is awesome~! And Days is saaaaaad.

...I don't know!

So I went to my phone provider today to complain and it was a frustrating and slow thing going but there was wifi and I was able to read this in one sitting and AUGH I HAVE NO WORDS TO EXPRESS AND NOWHERE TO BEGIN.

So I shall start at the beginning and degenerate into incoherent babbling.

And even if he had, Yen Sid thinks, watching the way his apprentice watches the child, even if he had, he might not have cared.

It's a wonderful introduction on how Yen Sid and Mickey differ in how they view reality and where they stand, and how Riku plays a part as the corporeal form of their differences.

AND YET. AND YET. Yen Sid reminds himself that he has no reason to be pleased that his apprentice still trusts him.

"He'll shield himself," Mickey says, voice soft, "if he doesn't recognize the caster. Let me."

I know I've written about how I feel about Yen Sid as an old and elderly bigot before, and while the prompt is primarily about Riku, this fic makes me make happy noises because it's an expansion of Yen Sid as a character and how he ( ... )

Yen Sid is basically the grumpiest grandpa ever with a really really loooooong and massively huge worldview. He would really like to know why all of these younglings can't just pull their shit together and save the worlds without breaking so much stuff in the process, srsly.

He doesn't quite get Mickey in the same way that a lot of people with opposing personalities don't, but he's quite fond of him, even if his kidlet is a weirdo and brought home a weirdo kidlet of his own. (I am not entirely convinced that Yen Sid is not vaguely horrified by the whole thing in much the same way that parents whose children were hellions are horrified by the thought of said children reproducing. Because Riku's not even the same species as Mickey but OH GOD HE'S A (NOT!)PARENT NOW ( ... )

I cackled. But truthfully, this is seriously starting to seem like the most likely reason in my head. Every time I visit this idea, it just resonates rightly with me. If you take away Yen Sid's AUGH DUTY TO THE WORLDS, it would be this and Yen Sid's masochistic tendency of taking on students who don't follow the rules (his, the worlds', physics...)

re: The Fairies, I wonder how often they get to dress people. Actually, this brings to mind this: Kairi's clothes. Why does hers magically match Sora's and Riku's?

Yen Sid is perfectly okay with Mickey taking responsibility for ruling his world and saving all of the rest! He is likely less okay with Mickey raising a teenager. Particularly that one.

Given how enthused they get over Sora, I'm guessing it's not that often. And Kairi's clothes match theirs because somehow she knew. Princess powers, dreaming, etc. etc. I've written her as dreaming of Riku during the CoM-KH2 gap, so maybe she picked it up there! Because that makes as much sense as anything else in this series.

Yen Sid reminds me hella of some of my older relatives here--he's a good person but by gods does he ever get crotchety and NO DAMMIT }:C over things outside his experience. And I can understand that--the KH world is a lot like our own in that "rules" that many people thought were cast in diamond, never mind stone, are being bent or broken or revealed to not be rules at all but just assumptions. Not laws, but limitations of understanding. Not boundaries, but horizons.

And it's scary like hell, so he kind of covers the OH WHAT IS THIS I DO NOT EVEN with crotchety.

I love Riku so much when you write him XD I mean I love him anyway but so many people will leatherpants or handwave and you don't and it wins.

And I heart Mickey and Yen Sid's interactions XD

That is exactly the feeling I was trying to channel with him. He really does have the best intentions for all of the worlds, and he's willing to do whatever it takes to protect them, just because he's seen so much horrible crap happen over the years. And a good part of the grump, beyond the STOP BREAKING THE LAWS OF THE UNIVERSE DAMMIT, WHAT IS THIS FUCKERY, is a genuine grief because he can't help but look at Riku and see Xehanort, and he does honestly love Mickey very very much. He's been seeing trainwrecks so long that I think he's forgotten that not everything winds up falling off a cliff ( ... )
