By this point in time, confusion and frustration had given way to resignation. Huo no longer even took great notice of the color divide; he simply lived around it in the necessary ways. The practical concerns that the war brought with it were simply too small when put up against the philosophical ones ( ... )

no worries bb. Also it's surprisingly difficult to describe a protective symbol in his voice man_genius September 7 2011, 00:45:41 UTC
Genius was so lost in his world that he didn't notice Huo's approach. But then, he was often blind to things that were right in front of him. His eyes were fixed on some distant point in his mind and when Huo spoke, they widened in sudden surprise ( ... )

Impolite as it was, Huo could not help but grin very slightly as Genius' response. It had been quite some time since he deliberately surprised someone like that; he'd near forgotten how enjoyable it could. "I fear Gai-jun may take offense should I be graced with such a lofty title. But better than I surprise you, than a stray volley." That was said a touch more seriously. Not even a game of war was a place to for drifting off in contemplation.

That being as it was, he tried to stir them back into the relative safety of the building as Genius offered the explanation. Flippant or not, the concept was clear, and interesting. "A physician's armor," he mused. "Useful, when there is no clear separation between battlefield and camp. I may understand the ways of this war, yet." He decided not to ask whether the symbol was normally respected. From what he knew about Genius, it was the last question that the other man needed to think about.

"Might I beg your aid, then?" He raised his wounded hand slightly.

...Right. Huo was one of the ones who talked really funny. The stiff, polite, 'not at all from your universe' type of speech pattern, the one that made him sound respectable. Genius typically avoided respectable types. They made him feel uncomfortable and made his urge to snark even worse.

"Ninja's a lofty title?" That was new. He thought they were just silent killing machines. "I can't really see Gai with any title." He waved off the concern about volleys with a hand. "All the explosions are fake anyways." Luckily.

Speaking of funny ways of speaking, there he went again. Wait. Was he hurt? "Of course--what happened?" He slipped back into Medical and went into the rare 'professional' mode, steering them to one of the back examination rooms.

"Who knows what a ninja should consider lofty?" Huo kept his voice light; the younger man certainly seemed as though he would appreciate good humor just at the moment. He did not know Genius too well, but what he knew was plenty. For once, he was nowhere near surprised to see that Genius was, like him, dressed in gray.

But some good humor would probably do well to soften the inevitable blow of that conversation.

"Nothing of great severity," he answered as he followed into the room. "I had an unpleasant encounter with some wire, which was not as fake as one might hope." He drew the sleeve of his right arm back: the gash along the back of his hand was an angry, inflamed red, but he was certain that he had caught the infection early enough. "I am more lucky than unlucky, in truth. In this world, healing such a thing is a trifling business."

An overture, an opening - only that for now.
