The words did not register, for in his head he heard laughter, jeering. Night extended his arm, pointing the blade at the two Watchmen. He grinned so cocksure, dull and pupil-less eyes of yellow staring them down over the cursed sword.

"I don't know how you managed to find this beach, but you villains will not tread any further! Sorry, guys, the lunch will have to wait." He gave an apologetic glance to the group all around him, figures that slowly stood and stared Reed and Gai down in silence. The 'other' Gai narrowed his eyes and scowled, melting into the crowd, disappearing in a wink...

"But it's me, Spring! What are you saying?" Spring continued, his voice tinged with hurt, eyes glassy as he looked back at Gai.

"Why don't you guys sit and join us?" Krile asked brightly, the air around them rippling. Lovely white sand began to sprout from the harsh, jagged earth beneath them, accompanied by the distant sound of waves...

"No, you are right," Gai whispered back. "It almost feels like a trap." But only almost. If it had been, there would not have been another him sitting at the fire. Or perhaps it was indeed a trap, but not meant for them. Was this Night the real one, stuck and fooled ( ... )

If his stance before was one of caution, Reed gripped his sword's hilt in one of readiness at the sight of the world changing around them. A gorgeous sight it was, but an obvious- and overtly poisonous- ruse all the same. "And not even a subtle one," Reed murmured back at Gai's observation. "He must be bewitched."

The thought of Night as being a formidable foe was an odd one to Reed... but one he was willing to accept. After all, he'd been in Edensphere for two-odd years now, he was nothing if not used to surprises. He replied in another whisper, feeling the growing number of eyes upon them. "Disarm him if you can."

Reed stared out into the sea of doubles- those he'd seen before, or worked beside on countless occasions. He felt his gaze steeling when it met 'Krile' once again... an chilling, eerily familiar ache cast over his heart. This was but a poor player who'd never known true sincerity. "...And watch your back. These aren't our friends."

He'd had a feeling that if it wasn't Spring the manipulation wouldn't work, but he'd hoped anyway. So much for that. Six actual enemies, one person who needed to be stopped, and another enemy who was out there, somewhere ( ... )
