The Wilderness was deceptive here. The light didn't give him enough to see by, and Gai had seen a few shapes off in the distance that seemed large and moving. He was rather sure he didn't want to run into them.
Gai turned to Reed. "Which way do you--" There was laughter, and Gai turned in that direction. Was it Night? It sounded something like him, but it was rough. "This way, then."
The laughter of several others, harsh and blended together, (how many? Five? more?) had him touching his nunchucks but not drawing them yet. They were for serious battle only.

But the ruined, bleak land around him- and the warnings of far more malevolent forces- stirred suspicions that he would all too easily be made malignant. Reed had gone with Gai to find his pupil, yes... but just as much he hoped he'd find answers. Yet at every turn, every sight that only vaguely stirred the lost memories within him, the only beasts to greet him were the tendrils of doubt.
But the sound of Night's laugh brought him out from his thoughts and back into his surroundings; he only gave a nod at Gai's words, following his guidance into the unseen fray... and only hastening his pace at the chorus of laughter; whatever the cause, it couldn't be good humor in a place such as this. "Careful, Gai... That laugh's as mad as it is mirthful."

One of them was that terrible, scorpion-like figure from his nightmares. The other was that tall, armored demon in the mask. That one that made his blood boil and his teeth grind. He tried to stop them, shouting to them as he stood, but Spring and Krile approached the two newcomers, their voices muted to the green-haired demon.
"Father! What are you doing down here!?" Spring asked, expression unnerved as he held his arms open imploringly to Gai.
"It's been a while, Reed!" Krile said, a little blush on her face as she waved.
Night stood, his expression hardening as he lay a hand to the sword strapped to his lower back. "Get back! Stop trying to speak with them before they hurt you! I'll handle this!"
His stance widened, an obvious combative stance. He seemed ready to charge in.

The approaching pair was confusing. Spring? Down here? Spring was supposed to be at work, and Gai knew his son wouldn't be slacking. He was diligent. But here he was. Krile... maybe she was lost too. Gai looked at the group around the fire and froze when he saw his face. Clones, then? Was this even the real Night in front of them?
"Who are you really? You are not my s--" Night was grabbing his sword. What was going on here? "Hurt who? Night? What is going on? What are you handling? ...And who are you warning?" There was danger here, and Gai wondered what it was that wore his face. Did Night think the real Gai was fake? They'd shared a fire.
"Wait. Let us talk before anyone does anything." That they might regret.

"Night," he spoke, seeking out his gaze, "What is the meaning of this?"
Reed wasn't fond of drawing his sword on mere suspicion, but Night's sudden shift to aggressiveness brought his own hand resting on his sword handle almost on instinct. He stared back down at 'Krile...' did Night speak to his campfire companions or to his would-be rescuers?
"Heed his words. Stay your hand, Night," Reed quietly ordered, his 'free hand' held up and bidding a pause. "This has not the look of any joyous reunion," he whispered hurriedly to Gai.
