Turns out he shouldn't have worried. They were clearly in Rick's house--or an elaborate simulation of his place. Genius waited impatiently for people to suddenly appear or for one of Rick's memories to start, but the room remained stubbornly static.
"Is that...Promise?" He belatedly caught sight of the pictures on the table, all professionally done with happy smiles. Rick's real family.
He couldn't help the sadness and slight pang of jealousy from spreading across his face so he turned away from Rick, hopefully so the man wouldn't notice.

"Yeah," he finally said, not letting go of the picture. "I guess I lived here."
He took a deep breath, turning back to his brother and smiling a little sadly.
"You're missing, though. It needs a picture of you. And me and Promise and Mom."

Actually, he could almost picture it. He even smiled somewhat. "You'd have Stellaris and Lyle's picture on the mantel and a picture drawn by Nova on the fridge." He closed his eyes and painted the fantasy in his head. "Tribble's bed placed right where you'd be sure to trip on it in the morning...do you even have any pets here?" He opened his eyes and looked around. "Maybe you had cats--can you imagine Tribble's reaction to a cat?"

Still gripping the picture with one hand, Rick went and put the other arm arm around Genius when he was finished speaking.
"Suppose we'll find out if your star-friend and Simon end up having to take care of Tribble, eh?"
He then closed his eyes, inhaling and exhaling deeply once again, also taking the time to picture what he was talking about.
"...I don't see any of me and Nikki, though. ...Guess that comfirms what both of us suspected."
