Daitou knew that the ribs the dragon had cracked in the fight had not quite healed yet, though most of the soreness had left. He was not quite prepared for the blinding spike of pain when Hawk's blow connected, however, and he gasped, one hand coming off the handle of his shinai to cover the injury. He could feel the tickle in his chest and throat that meant his body wanted to cough, but he forced it down, taking short shallow breaths through his nose. Coughing would only make the pain worse right now.

Hawk's grin died as Daitou's hand flew to his ribs. The way the man's breath rasped made him flinch; had he struck that much too hard?

"Dragon's bones." He stepped closer, letting the practice sword clatter to the tatami. "You all right? It's best we call a truce right now, if your breathing's anything to go by."

He was no healer, but he knew what that controlled pace of breathing meant: Daitou was holding back worse pain. The blow hadn't been that sharp. "Old injury? Didn't think I hit you that soundly."

Daitou nodded, and then when the pain finally receded to a dull throb, exhaled carefully. "...Sorry. I thought it had healed more than that." He really hoped that blow hadn't undone what had healed so far. He'd probably have to go to Wellspring to find out - which meant another lecture, probably. He'd save that for later.

"Truce it is - and tea, if that would be favorable?" He knew where Samehada kept the supplies, anyway.

"If it helps you breathe, then sure," Hawk half huffed, relieved to hear Daitou at least speak in complete sentences. "But maybe it's best you sit down and tell me where there are tea implements here, unless you meant to walk to the Bazaar first."

He let out a deep breath himself, as if it would help him excise the rush of the spar and calm down. The drop from quick-paced combat was a little disorienting. "How'd you hurt yourself?"

It was at least in part a courtesy question. He knew the black dragon had injured Daitou, and while it had been some time, cracked ribs could be that slow to mend.

Daitou thrust the shinai through the ties of his hakama, opting to leave it at his side for the moment. A few more normal breaths proved that that spike of pain was gone for now - though he had to admit Hawk was right. Walking would probably be alright, but carrying things all over the dojo would be a little more painful.

"When that huge dragon attacked - it went after me, too." He walked to one of the screen doors that opened onto the building's interior, and gestured at Hawk to follow him. "And it'll be easier just to show you where they are."
