The Incident! inthecenterfold September 17 2010, 22:23:31 UTC
Re: The Incident! stonewave September 17 2010, 23:38:02 UTC
It took a while, but Aniki finally managed to tone down the broad grin on his face. For all the weirdness the Sphere seemed determined to throw at people, occasionally there were somewhat pleasant surprises. People all around them in a welcome crowd filled with color and noise and voices that droned on in the distance like laughing cicadas. It was a welcome change from quite a few things. Suzy tugged at his makeshift leash and harness from time to time but seemed content enough for the most part to trot alongside the two.

"Where's all this come from anyway?" Aniki asked. "Place can't seem to make up it's mind what it's gonna be."

Smoke shrugged as he walked next to his brother. "One thing I've never figured out. Guess I never thought much about it either." He guessed it was because the first Wilderness he'd ever been to had felt about as familiar as this one. It was only after many changes that it became things he was completely unfamiliar with.

"All I know is you'll never see people here." He pointed out one of the stalls. "See? It's not a real person. It's a mannequin dressed up like a normal person."

He pulled out a cigarette and lit up, then spoke again. "Any'a this looking familiar to you? I mean bits and pieces for me... but the clothing's weirding me out a bit. Seems a bit... flashy. Not a big pattern person, I guess."

Smoke was gesturing to one of the stalls that allowed you to try on 'kimono' and 'yukata' and 'hakama.' They were all very brightly colored and Smoke had to wonder what a plain white one would look like, or pale yellow, or black, or brown, or such solid colors.

"What's wrong with flashy? Looks better'n half the stuff I own." Half the stuff he owned consisted of a shirt and spare pair of pants. "Just looks better, is all." 'Familiar' was a strange feeling when he didn't know what to look for. Even with all of the blank mannequins, however, the place still felt comfortable in a strange sort of way. "I like this place. Feels kinda off, but... It's good." Better than ponds that turned people into animals, at least.

Aniki frowned at the little sparklers here and there in the distance and stared up at the blank sky above them. "Should be bigger though. And fireworks. Real ones, like spirals..." Suzy tugged at his leash and Aniki was pulled just as easily from his thoughts. "Alright, alright, we'll feed ya!"

Smoke in hiding inthecenterfold September 17 2010, 22:31:12 UTC
While hiding from Aniki and Suzy, Smoke and Aniki continue to rage at each other over the journals.

Smoke is hiding near the Taiko Drumming Entertainment Mannequins at first.

After reading the relieving news of Cloud's return, Sniper decided that he'd take a small trip into the Wilderness. Lea's report made it sound pretty fun, and that meant that he didn't have to find anybody to accompany him; in a place like this, there would be plenty of people milling about to find somebody to follow into the elevator.

It was a good place to keep his hands busy while his mind worked. He wondered why people who disappeared came back far more seldom than those who died. He wondered why all who died came back at the same time. He wondered why the culprit did it, and why the Watch seemed intent on imprisoning him instead of executing him.

Sniper had a worrying habit of wondering about just about everything, but as those thoughts nagged at him from the back of his mind, he was also wondering if anybody would notice if he just took a particularly nice looking green wrap from one of the stalls and one of the rice balls stuffed with dry fish in the other one, and maybe he could steal - borrow - some of the ( ... )

"Don't worry, I'm gonna find him and kick him in th' rear, Suzy."

His mouth still tasted like soap and Smoke was still no where to be found. Aniki's angry run had diminished to sullen stomping and the rappig hung limp and indignant under one arm. So he stomped past the stalls and stomped through the crowd and almost didn't notice when he almost stomped right into someone intently studying a green wrap.

"Watch where--!" Aniki forced himself to take a slow breath. "Sorry, sorry, just lookin' for a guy. Didn't mean to run into ya." He stood up straight and juggled his armload of pig and purchases. "Tall guy, scrawny, red-headed twerp. You seen 'em?"

Sniper span around when he felt somebody nearly crash into his side and took a few steps back, half hopping and half running in an effective yet rather foolish looking evasive maneuver. He opened his mouth to let the rude stranger know that he ran into nobody, thank you very much when the man backtracked and apologized.

"Don't worry about it," he said, staring at the creature held underneath the stranger's arm more than at the stranger himself. "No, I haven't seen anybody like that around here, I don't think. What's his name?"

He leaned over, staying a comfortable enough distance away from the pig just in case it felt like developing a taste for human flesh but close enough to have a good look at it. "And why are you carrying a pig?"

Snake had been checking out the wilderness for most of the late morning and into the afternoon. As an adventurer it was his duty to scope things out, but in truth it was just another excuse to explore or maybe find out more information on this insane place. Recently people had been spitting bubbles and there was the whole critters under the bed incident... and the balls. Ever since he'd come here things just kept getting weirder. At least he wasn't cursed or blind or anything of the sort at the moment. It felt refreshing to have a... could he call it a normal month? Well he seemed normal even if the events weren't so much.

He sat on a bench near the drumming mannequins enjoying the entertainment while he snacked on some of the sushi he'd picked up earlier when he saw a flash of red hair run by. Not a mannequin. He didn't get up at first but just casually watched to see where it headed before glancing over the journal to see if anything popped up. He soon came across the amusing discussion between Aniki and Smoke. My, my, ( ... )

Smoke skidded to a stop and at first didn't bother with how this person knew his name. He'd pretty much announced to the whole Sphere that Aniki was mad at him.

He stopped near the drums and kept his voice just a hair above conversation level as a result, to speak with the strange white-haired man. "I'm not scared of him -- I just don't feel like dealing with him until he's calmed down ( ... )

"What? You don't remember me? I'm hurt." In contrast, Snake's smile never dropped. He didn't expect Smoke to recall him immediately. After all, he had been in the form of a child on their first two encounters.

"We were just talking, too." Snake picked up his journal and waved it slightly as if dropping hints to the redhead and turning this into some sort of guessing game. Snake liked games. It was more fun than just giving a straight answer.

Juliet hadn't known what to expect when she went down to the wilderness this time. It turned out to be a sort of festival, with those strange symbols that Rabbit and her had seen when in Tokyo. Was this related somehow? Curiousity got the better of her, and she wandered for a bit, almost forgetting that she was supposed to be searching for Smoke. Well, wandering worked too.

The clothes, though, they captured her attention. The colors, decoration, detail...it was breathtaking. She wanted to wear some so badly...and she would find out how. One of the mannequins through gestures managed to convey that she could be lent the garment for now, for the festival, and she immediately agreed to the arrangement.

So, a short while later, she was wandering in the outfit, her hair up, and keeping her eyes open for Smoke. After all, it was as simple as look for the red hair.

[ooc: if he isn't gone from the Taiko, assume that Jules wandered over? :D]

Why don't I have a jaw-drop icon? inthecenterfold September 18 2010, 04:50:49 UTC
Smoke was still hanging out around the drumming ensemble after meeting Snake. That had been ever so slightly weird, so he was trying to just enjoy the mannequins' combination of music and dance and theatrics. It was the kind of thing Smoke could really enjoy - far more than primped-up parties and the like.

So he hardly noticed when someone came over and sat down next to him. Partly it was because he hadn't heard her approach and partly because he didn't recognize her. Then his new power started to tickle at the back of his mind. It wasn't anything specific - just a reminder that someone was there.

She was waiting to see how long it would take him to notice, and had turned her attention to the mannequins' show for the time being. So strange, but it carried its own grace in the timing. Ordered, contained, yet passionate and striking. Perfectly fascinating.

When Smoke spoke, she turned to face him. The compliment made her smile and giggle just a bit, she really was flattered. It had been such a impulsive decision to wear this. "Thanks~ glad someone besides me likes it."

Peachblossom and leaving the Wilderness w/ Aniki & Suzy inthecenterfold September 17 2010, 22:34:04 UTC

The ugly, scarred white dog came back at a trot, Peachblossom following a little more sedately. She had a mass of patterned russet silk slung over her arm - Peach didn't think she'd ever wear a kimono, but maybe she could get someone to turn the silk into some kind of overcoat, now that it was getting colder.

"Smoke, hello," she said when she was close enough.

Smoke had finished spending time with Juliet and taken to wandering around the Festival looking for Peach-kun now. He really didn't want Aniki to stay mad at him forever, and he figured the best way to solve that was to get back into Suzy's good graces.

Eventually the white dog found him and he petted it a few times before it took off back to Peach. He followed behind and waved when she called out. "Yo, Peach-kun. Been awhile." When he was closer, he gestured to some of the stalls nearby. "You seen any of that food you were talking about, or we actually looking for it now?"

Her dog looked between them, tongue lolling out from between his heavy jaws, then trotted off, crooked tail held high. Peach looked for a moment as if she'd like to shout something after him, but held off. She'd already told him that if he was going to steal, he'd better choose carefully.

"I saw a few things," she said, turning in the right direction. "There were some dried noodle cracker sticks that I think just about anyone would like."

"You called it a ratpig? What does he usually eat?"
