I don't know why this is so tl;dr x.x smokesordie June 4 2010, 18:35:25 UTC
A year in the Sphere and things had been going wonderfully. To an extent, Eyepatch anticipated an end to the party; that's just how the Sphere (and life in general) seemed to work. However, nothing could've prepared him for that. Zombie was dead. Moon was dead because Zombie killed him, along with many more injured. Pretending all was well wouldn't fool anybody, but he wasn't about to wallow in self-pity or sink into depths of grief either. It all felt so very familiar, but he just didn't have the energy to contemplate why (not that it would matter, anyway). With the shop currently closed, he numbly proceeded with the motions until he could figure out what the fuck to do ( ... )

Apple tensed up at the sound of footsteps, curling his wings around around himself so that only a tuft of his hair was visable from his position on the ground, up against a tree. But when he heard Eyepatch's voice he relaxed a little and the wings shifted so his face was visible.

"Hi Eyepatch."

He had no idea how close Eyepatch was to Zombie but even if he did, he wasn't the type to hold it against him. Eyepatch was Apple's cool big brother type, but the fact that even he sounded sad made Apple's stomach hurt.

Apple was so cheery and curious so much of the time that Eyepatch didn't care who you were; seeing him like this was just sad. In fact, he was pretty sure the only time he did was after the fire. Eyepatch didn't need to ask why. At least the kid was talking.

Stopping next to him, Eyepatch took another drag of his cigarette before kneeling down and blowing the smoke the opposite direction. He even managed a grin. "What're you doing out here all by yourself, huh?"

Oh the fire was best not mentioned anywhere close to Apple, even if the young boy had repressed most of it.

Apple watched the cigarette smoke dispense into the air and then had to remind himself to try and answer his big brother.

"Nothing."

Waiting.

Black wings quivered as Apple shifted up against the Tree.

He just watched Apple, sighing internally. If he had known he was going to run into him here, he likely would have brought candy or something.

Pressing a hand to his knee, Eyepatch stood back up, reaching over and lightly patting the top of the kid's head. "He'll be back."

Or for the love of whatever higher being he hoped.
