Blood was feeling drained, far too tired to protest when she saw Ghost begin packing up stuff for them. She wasn't sure why he was getting their stuff together, but she knew it had something to do with Alexi's disappearance. She picked up Ingvar, holding the kitty close even as Ghost picked her up, and couldn't think of anything to say.

She couldn't believe that Alexi was gone, again. Truth too. Why were all the people she cared about leaving? Could anyone answer that? Taking a deep breath, she glanced over Ghost's shoulder trying to figure out where they were. They had somehow wandered over to Stony's neck of the woods, but when she opened her mouth to ask why all that came out was a big yawn.

Stoneface had just gotten home when he heard the knocking on the door, and he set the paper bag full of pork buns on his desk as he walked towards the door. He wasn't good at words, and he didn't know how to deal with loss, but he had to try his best. He hated to even think it, but between all the losses, he was one of the few that both Ghost and Blood had left. You did the job that was in front of you, even if it was one you didn't know how to do ( ... )

To be honest, Ghost didn't realize that Blood had Ingvar in her hands until Stoneface opened the door and his dog started barking. Then his startled and blinked at that like it was the first time seeing him.

Alexi's cat. Kanin's cat. How come their pets remained when their owners left? What kind of justice was that? He shot Stoneface an apologetic look before putting Blood down. Invgar seemed ok with Nobby's presence.

Ghost smelled the porkbuns before he even registered them with his eyes and his stomach let out a loud growl before he could say anything. He frowned at the noise--when had he last eaten? He didn't remember. He hoped Blood had something, even if that something was just sugar.

The food went into his mouth mindlessly, although he picked out a bit of pork for the cat to eat if he wanted. Had they fed the cat? Probably, it's not like it was ever something that Alexi--

--never mind.

It took Blood a few moments to feel comfortable letting go of Ingvar, the kitty being the only real connection to Alexi that she had left, but reluctantly she let the kitty go. From the look on the poor kitten's face you would think she had been squeezing him.

Waiting a few moments to make sure that Nobby and Ingvar would get along, Blood seemed to perk up a bit when she was ushered over to the couch and presented with a pork bun. She was pretty sure she had eaten before, she just couldn't remember when.

Sitting back, she looked up at Stoneface as she took a bite of the food, barely tasting it as she chewed for a moment. She almost wanted to tell him she wasn't hungry, but she had the feeling that wouldn't fly with him.

Instead, she did as she was told, still unsure as to why they were here but slightly happy to see a friend. It dawned on her that Stony wasn't one of Ghost's favorite people, but that didn't stop Big G from bringing them here. Maybe they had become better friends.

Yeah, that was probably it.

AFTER BLOOD'S BEDTIME stonyfaced April 19 2010, 04:07:00 UTC
After it became apparent that Blood was fast asleep, Stoneface gently entangled himself and the book from out of the area and tucked the book back into his desk, showing no sign that he heard Ghost's wry comment. He wrestled the cup of hot cocoa from out of Blood's hands, walked over to the couch and yanked off an extra blanket he had received during the ice storm, and tucked her in. Then, he walked over to stand beside Ghost, watching the child for a moment more to make sure she was asleep ( ... )

Ghost watched Stoneface tuck Blood into bed with an ease that he'd never managed. The Watchman had a paternal touch, like someone who instinctively knew how to be around a child, something Ghost knew he lacked. He was ok being a brother but a father...well he was clueless there ( ... )

"I've been keeping track," he said, quietly. If he hadn't been keeping track through the Library and his own tabs - which he had been - he'd be able to tell just from Ghost's and Sky's faces, which looked more and more somber every day, and from Blood's, whose expression grew disturbingly more adult every day ( ... )

There wasn't much Ghost actually signed up for in his life. Things just happened to him and his outlook on life tended to be the same. Shit happens to good people. There's not much for it but to move on and try to plan for the next storm ( ... )
