The dream faded slowly, leaving her drifting through lighter sleep, warm and content for the instant between slumber and wakefulness. She uncurled from the foetal position, stretched her arms-

And drew in a great big lungful of something cool and liquid. It sent her sputtering and flailing, her hands breaking through the goo and swishing through cooler air outside. The walls around her collapsed with her frantic movement, and she blinked the same syrupy liquid from her lashes. She could breathe. This was important. She was huddled in the crumbled remains of some kind of shell or cocoon. Long ropes of ginger hair coiled around her shoulders and chest, heavy with the glistening liquid.

She wiggled her toes, all ten. She spread her fingers before her face and flexed them, all ten.

That was good, too. She had proper hands and feet, even if she couldn't quite fathom how she'd ended up in this...

"Hello?" Her voice sounded small and parched. She swallowed and looked up for the first time. "Hello? Is anyone there?"

He was wrapped up in thoughts of tea, anticipating getting his things home, when he realized that he wasn't holding anything. In fact, he wasn't wearing anything either. At least the water was warm. But why was his head underwater? This wasn't a way to relax. He kicked upward, trying to get his head to the surface.

To his surprise, the thing burst, spilling him and goop onto the floor. He caught his breath, glad that he was no longer trapped, and glanced around. There was a young woman nearby, looking as confused and goo-covered as him. Deciding not to get up quite so fast based on his current state of undress, he held out a hand toward her.

"Do not worry. I am sure there is reasoning behind this. As a fruit is best when it is ripe, patience rewards those who use it."

Ew. Ew! What the--?

The last remnants of the blue-and-green light of that strange corridor in the dream had faded to cold black nothing, and then the black had somehow become warm and gooey. ...Eull, cold and empty was somehow better than warm and gooey. Suspended in some strange pod of translucent glop he was pretty certain he shouldn't have been able to breathe in, he fought back the involuntary urge to convulse and flail in a panic. He'd never been a big fan of water, and being completely submerged in goo was worse. But he could breathe, inexplicably enough, and so the panic faded a bit.

The general sensation of disgust, however, did not. Reaching out to prod experimentally at the edge of the pod, he let out a yawp of alarm when it broke at his touch--jeez! He hadn't poked it that hard!--and spilled him unceremoniously only the floor ( ... )

The sound of voices drew her attention. So there was someone else here! That did make the strange situation somewhat less scary. Especially when one of the someones had just...

She made to extend a hand in return, wiping the last of the goop from her eyes with the other, and promptly realised that save for the scant modesty afforded by her long, thick hair, she was naked. So were the two others.

She curled into a ball, knees tight to her chest, with a decidedly alarmed "Eeep!" and fixed her eyes on her knees.

"Um, um, sorry! I didn't mean to--" Her cheeks flushed. "Well. Yes. Awkward." She laughed, a little, shy chaff of amusement. "I... I don't suppose either of you know where..."

The reminder that the place was also absolutely new--her mind seemed to resist any attempt to reach backwards into her memories--made her look around again. She studiously avoided the two others in favour of the walls.

"I mean... Where is this?"

He politely averted his eyes before glancing over at the third of their little group. So they had a young woman, a young man, and him. He was fairly sure he wasn't young, but he didn't know where that came from.

The young man seemed fairly calm. That was a good start.

"Yes, but I am sure there are things that are more awkward." He paused. "None come to mind right now, though."

He shook his head in response to the girl's question, but realized she wasn't looking in his direction. "I don't know. It doesn't look familiar, but I'm having some trouble sorting out what is familiar. I don't remember anything about swimming or a room. Do you?" He looked over at the young man. There was no reason to expect the young man to know anything, but he could hope.

Of course, sitting here and just hoping wasn't doing much. "If you two did not mind looking away, I will look outside the room and see if there is anything to cover up with."
