Pinky was on her way from her house to the Marketplace (she needed to restock her food supplies) when she realized that fires were breaking out everywhere she passed. Buildings were on fire, people everywhere were running around in panic, and oddly enough, some were wearing strange looking protective gear. But she wasn't one of them, something that confused her, but ultimately she pushed it from her mind. Seeing if she could do something to help was more important than worrying about how to get the same protective gear ( ... )

The environmental suit appeared on Handmaiden at the same instant that flames roared suddenly around her. Handmaiden drew in a breath with a hiss, but although the air inside warmed considerably, she was not burned. Looking out through the narrow slit, she saw... horror. Terror, pain, death death death death twanged and ripped around her, tearing open the foreboding that had been nagging at her senses.

People were dying. Agonized, horrific deaths. Handmaiden pushed her way through the flames. She had to fight--she had to help now, whatever she could do. Others were in suits, she saw. They seemed safe. But there were many who were unprotected. The flames flicked at them, predatory ( ... )

Unfortunately for Handmaiden, it was too late. The flames were moving too fast, and Pinky had nowhere to run. She grabbed desperately for Handmaiden's hand, ignoring the fact that she had no idea who she was, but that failed to work as the fire was just too intense.

She pulled back her hand as the flames leaped higher, and soon there was nothing left to be seen of the alley or Pinky.

She was going to die. Handmaiden knew it the instant after she reached.

The young woman yanked her hand back as the fire seemed to leap forward, consuming her completely. The sense of death and pain, so close, so intense, Handmaiden could not hold it inside of her--it ripped out of her in a long scream that burned her throat as she felt the woman's death. She stood there as the flames swept around her, making the air in her suit moderately warmer but otherwise leaving her unscathed.

And then it passed, leaving... leaving...

Handmaiden gagged, only just managing to not vomit into her suit at the woman's remains. The sensation of death seemed to suck at her feet in a pool of dark nothingness that felt all too familiar. Turning, she moved away from the scene as quickly as she could manage in the envirosuit.

The fire spontaneously started in the living room of the Ghost/Blood/Alexi household. One minute everything was completely utterly normal and the next minute there was FIRE EVERYWHERE. Too much and too widespread to put out ( ... )

When the fire broke out, Blood had been in the middle of a patrol with Stoneface, though her reaction was pretty immediate. She broke out into a run and headed towards the house she shared with her big brother and their friend. She had to make sure Big G was alright ( ... )

When it began raining fire, Stoneface found himself encased in a bulky suit and groped around in a wild panic for a moment before seeing Blood run off into the flames. Panic swallowed him whole--this couldn't be happening. That's what they always said, always thought whenever something like this happened ( ... )

pifth I don't know why I didn't realize it was my tag. Prolly the last one too. He's dead. redrobinhood October 25 2009, 16:05:02 UTC
Their house was gone. Completely and utterly. A year's worth of belongings were being consumed and the room smelled like burnt flesh and plastics. A nice roaring fire was consuming Ghost and Alexi's room where the flames had found Alexi's electric guitars and decided these made the best fuel. The kitchen was gutted but there was still the danger of the fire making its way into the gas line. The room creaked and hissed with released chemicals and toxic smoke, a slow soupy deathly mix.

Their belongings were scattered from the explosions. There was a teddy bear burning in one corner and bits of melted guitar in another. Nearest to the fallen figure of Ghost there was something tiny and round lying abandoned on a floor. The string it was attached to was burning slowly ( ... )

Medical Island snowburned October 24 2009, 19:10:17 UTC
It was like she'd suddenly been encased in a hot, dark cave. Kazahana was in the middle of walking to the supply closet to grab a few stock items when the suit and the heat appeared simultaneously--not with a bang, nor a whimper, but a jarring of the senses and the sound of far-off screams of fear and pain.

"What the--" Her voice echoed inside the suit, and it was only then that she realized it was some kind of safety equipment. Half a heartbeat later, she realized that the orange glow and sudden rise in temperature weren't due to the suit changing her perceptions.

She dashed to the closest window--or rather, she trudged quickly. A scene of horror waited there; the clinic was surrounded by fire, and she couldn't see how far the flames went. They could easily be trapped here to burn alive.

"Everyone!" She turned around to face the others who were there, not all of whom wore suits, she realized. "Stay calm. We have to evacuate."

Will had been bent over a desk doing paperwork when it happened. Something suddenly surrounding him, pressing in on him from all sides, some kind of suit, a narrow slit being all he had left to see through, and he fought down the instinctive urge to panic as he straightened up, even as he felt that odd stab of familiarity at the back of his mind. What on Earth was going on?

Then he felt the rising temperature, too, and heard Kazahana's shout. They were in danger. He had to leave, find some way to help. The suit he was in was extremely cumbersome, but he made his way out toward the entrance. One foot in front of the other. Slowly. Careful not to fall.

Will had been on duty with her, and a few patients were visiting. She looked back to see them--some wore the same bulky suit she did, but others were disturbingly bare to the elements.

Did this extend beyond Medical Island? She couldn't tell from here. All she knew was that they couldn't just stay here and wait for the flames to consume them. Gesturing for the others to follow her, she made her way out the front door. Her sword hung on the small rack she'd brought in weeks ago, and she grabbed it on the way, thankful that the suit's gloves retained enough dexterity to allow her to grip the hilt. They moved as a group, ducking away from the flames, but no more than thirty feet from the clinic, Kazahana realized there was nowhere else to go. But that didn't make them helpless.

She probably looked stupid as she held her sword out before her, but she didn't give a damn as she released its power. "Dance, Sode no Shirayuki!" Sliding her foot into place, she prayed this would work. "Hakuren! The ice shot out, the dampening the flames, the ( ... )

square zero - companion and wolverine metalandashes October 24 2009, 19:15:40 UTC
Wolverine had been coming out of his house when it happened. The force of the first explosion had thrown him backwards into his own front door hard enough to crack the wood, a small sharp noise under the deep-throated roar of fire racing up the World's Oak. Pulling himself to his feet, he'd gotten a brief glimpse of flames engulfing the great tree, licking at the trunk like eager hounds, before flaming debris and jagged chunks of wood started raining down out of the sky and he was moving, some deep animal part of his brain awakened by the smell of smoke and burning, telling him to run, run, get away, hide, runSo he ran. The stench of the fire filled his throat and his lungs, making his eyes water and his heart thunder painfully in his chest. Driven by pure instinct, he began to make for a point furthest from the burning tree, stumbling and snarling, senses clogged, half-blinded ( ... )

Wolverine looked up at the sound of her voice, his eyes wild and dark and red-rimmed. Companion. He waved a clawed hand at her, the metal blades glinting in the reflected light of the fire.

"Get outta here!" He barked. "I'll be okay! Get outta here before this whole place goes up!"

Companion would have laughed at him if not for the smoke filling the air. Instead, she offered Wolverine a watery smile as she stifled a cough, wrapping her shawl around her face and over her mouth as she headed over to where he was currently standing.

"Don't be ridiculous," she scoffed. "I'm sure you'll be fine, but you can't do this all on your own."

It was the last fly Prongs figured he could fit in before the air was too cold to zip through this year. He wished he wore something a little thicker, maybe another layer to the clothes that he chose that day, as he felt absolutely chilled to the bone. He should have worn gloves; his fingers were going numb around the broomstick handle and he didn't know how much longer he could hold onto it. For the same reasons he also wished he bought a hat before he set off, since his wind-chilled ears felt like they could fall off at any moment ( ... )

The farm was busy this time of season, so many plants were coming to fruition keeping the staff busier than usual. A particularly large batch of pumpkins had been requiring special attention, something Dumbledore was pleased to assist with. As he checked the patch for any inconsistencies, he was surprised to find fire breaking out all around him. Before he could even begin to react, he found himself encased in a strange suit. He found it unwieldy at first, but soon discovered that it made the fire far less potent to him ( ... )

Prongs tried valiantly to swerve out of the way for the thing that he was about to crash into, but impact was inevitable. The two suits hit painfully, and while there was padding on the inside that didn't mean that it didn't hurt. Prongs swore as he felt his broom pull away from him, landing some distance away, and the two people in suits were tumbling on the ground.

It took a moment, since his limbs were fighting against him to just let them lay still, but Prongs crained his neck up to get a better view of where he was through the tiny slit in his suit. However, the whole place was ablaze with fire, and Prongs couldn't make any characteristic qualities out. Instead he turned back towards the suit that was laying next to him and leaned over to talk to the person.

"I'm sorry about that!" he yelled over the flames, "My broom lost control! Are you alright?" Prongs tried to see directly into the slit of the armor so he could maybe tell who it was.

Dumbledore stood his ground, knowing what was coming but also wanting to help as best he could. Falling onto his back, helping to break the fall for the other armored person. Dumbledore took a moment to catch his breath, recognizing the voice of the other speaker but having the wind knocked out of him unable to speak for the moment. He grunted as he finally sat up, glancing over at the other person through the dim view the suit offered.

"Prongs, is that you?" he called back, attempting to push himself into a standing position. "I'm fine, a little winded but it's alright. How are you?" Dumbledore couldn't tell if Prongs had gotten injured at all, but there was no time for that now as the flames seemed to be getting closer to both of them. Once he was standing, he reached out a hand to help Prongs stand up so they could get out of there.

"It's Dumbledore, we should get out of here before things get worse!" He shouted, hoping the strange suits would keep them safe.
