To anyone who wants to be saved - for a while... floating_bamboo October 24 2009, 17:41:24 UTC
The world was on fire, and so were its people. Without warning or signs, the tree had erupted into flames. The marketplace was like an inferno, and there were people screaming in fear and terror. People burning. People dying the most painful death there is.

Part of Koi expected to rush into panic at the sight and the chaos, but for some reason, he was calm. Tensed, yes, and fighting against the sorrow - but calm. As if he was used to insanity like this. Used to take control.

Rushing out, he started to look for people that needed help, doing his best to avoid the flames. Fight for life. Nothing else mattered. Buildings collapsed and when he looked back he noticed that the tea shop was on fire. Moving forward, Koi had to jump over a burning body on the street, rushing past without a second look. Too late to be saved. Next person, don't look back.

Will. Geranium. Kazahana - no, Kazahana had her sword. It made ice, didn't it? Bastet... she would take control. Blood. There were children here! Children burning. The thought made his heart ( ... )

Moon could barely hear the man, although he didn't know if that was because he was in too much pain, or because the suit blocked out a lot of noise. In any case, he was utterly useless to help the man get the roofing off of him.

He coughed weakly, and the pain from that alone told him his ribs were broken. Great.

When Koi pushed up at the roof, the pressure lessened, and Moon used both arms to push himself forward an inch or two. If the other man could just hold the roof up long enough for Moon to drag himself out from under it, he might be able to make it.

Provided he didn't pass out first.

It took him a minute - it felt like a lifetime - to find a beam sturdy enough to be used as a lever. Shoving in in with all his might, he then put his weight on the other end, forcing the beam to lift the heavier one. Just a little. Just enough.

"Can you get out?"

If not, he had to find something to hold the lever while he pulled the trapped person out. Turning around, he looked at the child he was protecting. Good. Still safe. The boy was too small to hold the lever and Koi didn't want to risk that something fell on him if he asked him to help the other man.

Apple was still there, exactly where Koi left him, still not quite processing what was going on. He occasionally looked up to stare blankly at the other man's efforts. But otherwise he was definitely checked out.

He was almost beyond pain at this point, and something flickered in his memory that this wasn't an entirely new situation. He'd been gravely wounded like this before, he was sure of it. Clenching his teeth to keep from screaming, Moon dug in with his elbows and dragged himself forward another few inches, collapsing immediately afterwards.

His torso was out from under the wreckage, but his legs refused to cooperate and get out of the way. Probably broken, too, damnit.

Very slightly, he lifted his head up to see the short figure behind Koi. The kid, it had to be.

"Fuck!" The curse seemed to give him enough strength and Moon dragged his legs out of harm's way, crawling on his stomach like an animal. Pathetic, but he was free.

Koi immediately let go of the lever, hurrying over to the injured man. His hands were throbbing like crazy from the pain and so was his head, the burns tearing the skin as he moved. Stoically ignoring all of it, he crouched down next to Moon.

"Where are you hurt? Can you breathe?"

He couldn't get the person out of the damn suit, which meant he couldn't really help. Though he had no training on the medical field or any powers like Kazahana, it seemed like he had a clue what to do, at least. Maybe he really was as old as his memory had told him...

"I got you. We'll get you out of here... just stay with me."

There was distant part of Apple that realized that the voice of the trapped person was familiar. It was also noticed that the flames were getting closer and closer to them.

But he still wasn't going anywhere till Koi told him to move.

The guy was asking too many questions and it was pissing Moon off. He tried to talk, even though he was wheezing his way through it.

"Chest... legs. Broken... Damnit!" Moon swore again, and had the very basic urge to curl into the fetal position, to retreat.

"Fucking place," he gasped out, still lying on his stomach on the ground as the Sphere burned around them.

"Alright. Then don't speak and take small, slow breaths. I'll see if I can find anything to splint the legs."

He nodded softly to the man hidden in the odd suit, and then looked over at Apple again to see if he was safe. Koi wasn't sure if he should turn Moon around, but with broken ribs, lying on his stomach could only make things worse. He needed some extra hands.

Leaving the injured man's side for a moment, he walked up to Apple and crouched in front of him, gently putting his hands on the boys shoulders.

"Hey. I know things are really hard right now, but stay with me, okay? We have to help this person, so we can all go somewhere safe and quiet. Do you think you can go sit with him while I find something to aid us?"

Apple blinked at the white haired god. He maybe only heard one out of every three words that the man said, but he got the gist of it. Stay. Sit.

He looked at the injured Moon and then back at Koi and then nodded slowly. It was actually a lot less scary when they didn't move and all he really wanted was for someone to tell him what to do.

He would stay put.

The small figure in the suit sat near him while the man went off to do something or other. Moon tried to say something typical, a snide remark, but his lungs ached and his legs were crushed and if he tried to say anything now, it would come out as a pathetic whimper.

"Fuck this place," he muttered, resting his head on the ground. No kid should have to see something like this. His head hurt when he thought that, as if he knew firsthand. No one should have to see people die...

Koi returned a few moments later with a somewhat blackened wheelbarrow. It was the best he could find, and pulling a man with crushed legs on a tarp or sheet wouldn't work. Neither would carrying him... and Koi refused to leave him there.

"Are you still with me?"

He asked softly, and crouched next to Moon again.

"I'll help you up on this, but it will hurt. Unfortunately, I could not find anything better."

A wheelbarrow. Those used to be fun to get rides on. Back on the farm.

Apple nodded at Koi and obediently moved so the older man could have better access to Moon without complaint.

They needed to move soon. It was getting incredibly hot.

"Dying would be too easy," Moon remarked, and then slowly looked at the wheelbarrow. "Like I have a choice?"

He was ready for Koi to lift him. Moon clenched his teeth so he wouldn't scream when the time came.

He was careful, but no matter how careful he was, it was impossible to not cause the other man pain. Not with those injuries. Lifting Moon with some trouble - that suit was heavy - he then carefully placed him in the wheelbarrow, hoping it wold hold.

It did.

Mindful of the other's legs, he then reached out and took Apple's hand.

"Now we're leaving. It will be alright."

"Come. Everything will be alright."

Nothing would really be 'alright', but one had to try. The person in the suit was obviously badly shocked and perhaps hurt as well, so Koi carefully wrapped his arms around Apple, trying to life him - suit and all - to get him out of there.

They couldn't stay here.
