Each time he'd been to the fourth floor, he noticed one was always there for much longer than it felt. He'd never expected to be conveniently whisked away after his wife's murder -twice, mind you- nor did he know to expect when she would return. But once he returned from his unplanned trip, he could feel her presence--it felt like her, so it must be her.

In checking the journal, it seemed an urgent matter was at hand, so he'd gone quickly in search of his senpai Bastet for an update. Naturally, his next stop would be wherever Kazahana was... likely the clinic rather than her house. Once he received the updates (and a position with the guard), he followed that feeling and headed to the Medic Island; a peek into the clinic confirmed his reasoning.

There was no point disturbing her at work, as sparse as it seemed to be that day. Instead, he waited outside for her to come out on break--hopefully she would take a break outside ( ... )

Hakuteiken's sudden appearance had surprised her, but only just. Since she'd thought to search for him with that strange sixth sense that she, Kiba and Bastet all seemed to have, she'd known that he hadn't disappeared. He was somewhere in the tree--but not reachable, otherwise he would have shown up as soon as she'd re-hatched. She didn't know much about him yet, considering, but she was positive about that.

"Hi," she said a little bashfully, feeling stupid. Why was it such a strange feeling when people showed their concern for her? She hugged him back, warmed by his care and relieved to see he was all right too. "I'm sorry," she said, getting choked up again by the memories, though she'd tried to move past them. "I didn't--I wasn't sure what was going to happen, but I know I just made everyone worry. That's not what I wanted."

Reciprocation. She hadn't forgotten, and that added yet another wave of relief but also this pang of wrongness he wasn't quite able to pinpoint. Perhaps it was because of those growing seeds of doubt that those feelings were becoming stronger... Nevertheless, what was important was that she was here. Right now. His treasure had returned, and he couldn't possibly allow her to be taken away again ( ... )

Kazahana frowned for a moment, but let it go--going alone had been careless, but a sort of planned carelessness she was aware of going in. She'd known of the danger, but it had been important to go. "I don't regret going," she said, a quiet strength in her voice. "I had to take the chance that I could find out something important. But it's not part of my plans to do it again ( ... )
