Summary: Wherein the loveliest traits can turn around and kill the one you care for the most. Key's POV.

No one knows what to do. No one knows where to turn for answers, for help. No one knows when or how this happened, because he used to be happy. He used to be, so happy. A beautiful glimmer of life, brilliant and dancing into lives with fervour and fight in every fibre of his body. Childish and full of dreams, dreams which used to make Kim Kibum smile because some of them would be so obscure and faraway it was stupid, but adorable because it would be just like him. Just like him to dream without a stop, reach without a falter, keep going despite the hurt he would go through.

How such a trait could turn around and smite you, he didn’t, doesn’t understand, but it’s happening before his eyes, slowly, painfully, dragging inch by inch by bloodied nails. Despite the pain. Despite how faraway a goal, no matter what people would say, reaching, clawing with a fervour, a determination inhuman.

Because Lee Taemin believes and if Lee Taemin believes then Kim Kibum can do nothing.

Everyone watches as the smiles become hollow, as those dark eyes lose their glimmer of amusement and joy, as his dancing becomes a painful fluttering of butterfly wings broken. As his hair loses its soft shine, and his strong, slender limbs become decaying timbers, rotting from the very inside. And it is a painful process, that of realising something is wrong. It is painful to realise how love can blind you so utterly, completely. But, Kim Kibum thinks, it is even more painful to realise it’s so out of his control. Out of anyone’s control.

Out of Taemin’s control.

Once a candle burning bright, a fading shadow of a boy lies in their bed that night, resting skin and bones so weary. The life in him has faltered; it’s stuttering, much like the heart within that carcass of a body, the very heart which Kibum can only pray will hold on. He sits down beside the younger, a plate of food in his lap; a desperate attempt because he knows not what else to do. They both know now, the things they have not wanted to know.

Taemin can’t. And by God does he wish he could, but he can’t stop, and it breaks Kim Kibum’s screaming, aching heart to look into the depths of those dark eyes and see it. “You have to eat”, he nevertheless tries; a feeble request, falling from his lips.

“I’m not hungry”, the boy whispers, like the oldest lie in the book.
