Every time, your sweet heart-shaped lips move, captivating me with their words, the sound of your voice, the way the corners curl into a smile, softening features otherwise so sharp, so perfect. I yield to you because I know not what else to do, because I’m caught and the mistakes just keep piling up, relentlessly. Mine, yours, ours, together, apart, push and pull.
“I love you”, you whisper in my ear, and the worst part is that I believe you; the worst part is that you probably do. The days when love was simple and clear are over; we took the apple from the snake and bit too hard, too deep.
I took him home; you took him in, to places not planned for. What were us is becoming unravelled before my eyes, even as my hands grasp and reach and try to hold on, to your lies. You come home and you smell like him, yet I let you kiss me, hold me and touch me. I let you tell me you missed me, I let you open my heart and stitch it together painstakingly, kiss by kiss, word by word, touch by touch.
You move in me; I cling to you, we moan and thrash and you breathe his name. You don’t even realise, and I don’t say. But it’s all I can do not to cry.
