[Someone had bombed his room, and if Phoenix were to hazard a guess, it would be to pin the blame on the woman who had threatened to kill him earlier and specifically mentioned bombs. He had no idea who she was or what she was capable of ( Read more... )

[Anna heard Harley's transmission, and within seconds she's barreling out of the buffet and into the hall, frantically on the lookout for Phoenix. She can protect him better shifted, but she'd rather him see her change first instead of running full force down the hall in his direction as a tiger.

Climbing a few levels of stairs, she starts shouting.]

Phoenix! Phoenix!

[It won't be easy to find Phoenix. In fact, he's trying not to be found. Considering all that's already happened, though, could anyone really blame him?

He's on deck three right now, though, trying to scavenge some medical supplies.]

[Anna doesn't blame him at all - she would be doing the exact same thing were she in his position.

However, it doesn't help her panic any that the first few places she checks are devoid of his presence. She'd checked his room - and had found what Harley had done and had kept going. She'll eventually stumble past deck three, still calling his name, though at this point she's a bit hoarse.]

[Phoenix is in the middle of tying a bandage around his arm when his keen hearing picks up Anna's voice. Frowning, he hesitates. Should he call out to her? Or should he avoid her? He doesn't want her to become a target if his attacker spots her with him.

In the end, he hesitates just a little too long. Anna might see him, standing next to a supply cabinet, clothing torn and bloody.]

[She's out of breath when she realizes that she isn't alone on the deck - the metallic scent of blood hits her before she notices him by that supply closet. Sharp eyes follow the scent and her gaze eventually hones in on his form.

Anna's already outed herself to Harley, so Anna isn't concerned about a target being painted on her back. She's pretty sure it's already there.

She heads over.]

What happened?

[Phoenix grimaces. Damn it, he shouldn't have just stood there like an idiot. When he answers, though, he shakes his head.]

Just some... unfortunate circumstances. Nothing a few bandages won't fix up.

[He doesn't want to alarm her or make her think there's more to it than that.]

[Phoenix, you are very sweet and Anna just adores you, but she reeeeaaally doesn't like it when her intellilgence is insulted.]

Something exploded outside of your room, and Harley is very much ready for revenge.

[She holds her hands out for the bandages. She can at least help with this.]

It seems as if that revenge might be slated for today, hm?

[Phoenix shifts uncomfortably, looking away.]

Oh. You saw that, did you?

[Reluctantly, he allows her to take the bandages from his hands. Then he gingerly starts shrugging out of his shirt. There's a few pieces of shrapnel embedded in his chest - small and not very deep - but there are plenty of shallow cuts.]

Harley? You know this woman?

[Anna's lips press together in a fine line at the shrapnel, shaking her head in frustration as she unwinds some of the bandages and glances around for some sort of disinfectant.]

I did see. I told her...she would have to go through me.

[She meets his gaze evenly.]

When someone I care for is threatened, I refuse to sit idle. [She cocks her head.]

Would you not do the same?

[Stepping closer, she moves to examine. Getting those out is going to hurt. Why is it that the only time they see each other half nude, it's always because of an injury?]

Yes. She is...was...[She hesitates.]

A friend.

And a friend of Maia's as well, I assume.

[He holds still while she examines him, mentally steeling himself for the pain he knows is to come. Honestly, he wouldn't mind if they had a different reason to be half nude, but sadly, that most likely won't happen today.]

Do you know how long she is likely to maintain this assault?

[He looks at her sharply.]

I do not want you involved. I do not want to see you harmed again, Anna.

Presumably.

[Anna takes note of his condition, then oh so carefully sets to work.]

Until she catches you.

[Her words are quiet and loaded with a cold fury that's been rolling within her since she heard Harley's initial post.]

This is my fault. I should never have trusted Maia.

[Dropping the little shards off to the side, she continues until the last one is gone. Then she will begin dressing it.

Getting hurt is part of life, now. I... Have accepted what I am, and with that, I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer hide from that which I fear. I am tired of running, of hiding, of...being afraid of my own shadow.

[She looks up.]

Let me help you, Phoenix.

[Harley was having the time of her life chasing Phoenix through the decks of the ship. True, it wasn't everyone's brand of good humor, but she was having a blast! Quite literally, actually!! She had tracked him, after a minor detour and was fairly certain he was on the third deck. Sure enough, a bit of carefully plotted reconnaissance finally showed him digging around for medical supplies.

Was she pleased to see that he was needing medical supplies? She'd be lying outright if she said 'no', as any injuries would begin to slow him down. Him slowing down would inevitably lead to his capture, and that was the ultimate goal.]

~A huntin' we will goooooooooooo, a huntin' we will gooooooooooo~

[Her tone is quite happy as it sings across the shipNET, piping in on anyone's communicators that are active. She preps another bleach bomb, having found the results quite satisfying so far as she's used them. However, as she shakes the bottle a familiar voice pipes in from down the hall. Scowling, she listens and identifies Anna easily enough after ( ... )

[Phoenix had been about to open his mouth to respond to Anna when the soft clink of a bottle hitting the floor, and the ensuing sound of its roll, catches his ear with a jolt of alarm. Paranoia kicks in as his head jerks toward the sounds.]

Anna, get-!

[**BOOM**]

[He's already moving, throwing himself off the bed to try to tackle Anna to the floor. A few more pieces of shrapnel slice through his skin, but the pain hardly registers.

Anna!]

[Anna and Phoenix both have similar ideas to one another - get down, get out of the way. The 'clink' of the bottle hitting the floor is enough to alert sharp ears to move and Phoenix tackles her, and while in his arms she shifts and rolls to pin him and try to shield him as best she can.

Go through her indeed, Harley. Anna hadn't realized how literal that would be taken. Shrapnel pierces her hide as well and a low whimper escapes but she doesn't move. Not until she's absolutely certain there is no further threat.]

[There are several shouts and Harley has no doubt that she managed to connect with the bomb, though the 'with whom' part is still up for debate. She pulls out three tennis ball bombs while the commotion from the first jar bomb remains, flicking her lighter to life ( ... )

[A surge of panic nearly overwhelms Phoenix as hundreds of pounds of flesh and claws suddenly pin him down. With a yell he tries to throw Anna off - to no avail. Logic tries to tell him that this is just Anna, but when two more explosions fill the air, trying to deafen him, logic goes to hell. He thrashes, heart beating wildly.

Until Anna's whimper reaches his ear. Cold shock brings him sharply back into focus as the full force of what she did hits him. She isn't attacking. She's protecting him. And she'd just taken an attack meant for him.]

Anna!
