Lucy hurried to the fountain as quickly as she could - not running, as that would be unseemly and unbecoming a young lady of her age and status; although she doubted very much that anyone in this place would care about such things, it was so ingrained in her that she did so without thinking about it. So much here was different. She was certain that it would be a very long time indeed before she found herself able to settle down, if she were able to do so at all. Being taken away from her husband was still very much in the forefront of her thoughts; she worried incessantly about him and their young daughter.
But as she made her way to the fountain, she tried to push those thoughts from her mind, though she had little success. It wouldn't do to meet her tutor with her eyes red from tears. He was so willing to be helpful, and it wouldn't do to repay his kindness with anything less than gratitude and kindess in return. Thus it was that she managed to keep her emotions under control, and even managed a small smile as she approached the fountain. A tiny pang of regret flashed through her mind - this had been where she'd met Mister Todd, the man who claimed he'd been Benjamin once - but she pushed the thought firmly away. This was no time to be silly.
