Dueling didn't seem to be as common a practice in Econtra as it was at home, and so upon seeing a challenge, Siegfried had been quick to accept. So far Siegfried's dueling hadn't gone as well as he was accustomed. He'd only won a single duel since his arrival.

As Siegfried approached the dueling field, he hoped to change that luck.

Siegfried bowed in acknowledgment of the compliment as Zwei the chariot returned to his side of the field. He hadn't seen anything from Johan yet that he couldn't handle, but that would likely change. No duel was certain until the life point counter hit zero.

"And now I shall place one card face down and end my turn."

Johan felt much the same way. And he was already making plans that he doubted Siegfried would realize were plans: though his double and Juudai most likely would. When he'd Special Summoned Sapphire Pegasus, he'd also used his special effect to set another of his Gem Beasts in the spell and trap zone: Amber Mammoth. Two more were all he needed.

But just in case, he set the next stage of his other plan into motion after drawing his card.

"First, I activate Mine Blasting. I can send five cards from my deck to the graveyard. Of course there's a cost for it: I can't draw next turn. But it's a small price to pay." And his grin was all but maniacal.

He sent the five chosen cards to the graveyard, then prepared to make his next play. "I summon Amethyst Cat, and I think you'll find this a bit familiar...by cutting her attack points in half, she can attack you directly."

Siegfried couldn't help but wonder what Johan was up to. Whenever a duelist sent so many of his own cards to the Graveyard, there was always a reason. Siegfried just hoped that he could figure out and diffuse that reason somehow so that it would not be a threat. For now, however, he had to take the cat's attack.

"And now, Sapphire Pegasus! Attack his monster!" Knowing how union monsters worked there would probably be something to eliminate destroying them both, but one was enough.

Siegfried took another 200 points of damage as Sapphire Pegasus attacked. However, when the attack ended, the Valkyrie remained. Fortune Chariot, however, had shattered into pixels. "Well done," he murmured.

Johan nodded slightly, then set two cards face-down and ended his turn. There was a faint grin on his face; he suspected that Siegfried was concerned about why he'd sent those cards to the graveyard.

If my first plan doesn't work...and it might not, he likes to stop attacks...then this one just might.

Siegfried drew and frowned at the two cards in his hand. Neither were particularly useful at the moment. He would have preferred to have drawn Nibelung's Treasure. No help for it now, though.

Deciding that he might as well plow ahead for now, Siegfried set to work. "Valkyrie Zwei, attack Amethyst Cat!"

Not that Johan really minded losing some life points, but he did want to display some of what he was capable of. So...

"Trap, activate! Last Resort! I can select a field spell from my deck and activate it!" He did so quickly, and Rainbow Ancient City - Rainbow Ruin formed all around them, looking much like an ancient Roman ruin.

"Just so you know, because I have two or more gems in the spell and trap zone...all damage to me is reduced by half."

Two hundred instead of four hundred points of damage was preferable, after all.

If that hadn't gotten rid of the cat, Siegfried had Mischief of the Time Goddess ready for another attempt. However, it would do him no good now since the Pegasus had a higher attack than Zwei. Only one option remained. "I end my turn."

Johan couldn't draw this turn, but that was all right. He could still do something. "Sapphire Pegasus, attack Valkyrie Zwei!"

And just like that, Zwei was gone. Siegfried wasn't terribly worried though. He still had the advantage of life points. And his turn was next. "It seems I've run out of monsters for the moment."

"And that's all that I can do for right now." Johan replied as Sapphire Pegasus came back to his side of the field. "Turn end." And his next turn he could draw.

Siegfried drew and couldn't help a smile. He may not have grabbed a monster, but Loge's Flame would do quite well towards keeping that Sapphire Pegasus, or any other monster Johan put out with less than 2000 attack, from attacking.

"I set one card face down," Siegfried announced as the trap appeared on the field. "That shall end my turn."

Johan would not have been surprised if that were another card to halt an attack. He just hoped it wasn't another Draining Shield, not with what he was planning on doing. He drew his card and grinned. He still had to wait for Siegfried to get a monster out, but once he did...well, then he suspected it would be all over.

"I use E-Force to Special Summon Amber Mammoth from the Spell and Trap Zone," he declared, doing so. The great mammoth appeared, trumpeting, and Johan gestured towards Siegfried. "Amber Mammoth, attack!" This would most likely trigger whatever card it was that Siegfried had laid out: and clear it out of the way for the real threat to come.

Siegfried smirked as he activated his trap. It was a unique way of getting a monster onto the field, but a monster was useless if it couldn't attack. "I activate Loge's Flame - this prevents you from attacking me with monsters that have less than 2000 attack."

A wall of blue flame flared up between himself and the mammoth. Siegfried figured that ought to buy him some time until he could draw one of his monsters.
